Please someone help, I'm making a bridal shower cake and I wanted to make calla lillies out of rolled fondant (never used the stuff before) but everywhere I check online show how to with gumpaste can it be done with fondant and how? I've seen them cutout one way with gumpaste yet the fondant cutters I've seen are completely different. Suggestions Please Thanks in advance. ~Kolleen

Yes, you can do callas in fondant- it just takes longer for them to dry. The instructions are the same for both flowers. As for the cutter, if you have one go ahead and use it. I have also seen a heart cutter used, in a pinch. These are simple flowers and will adapt to minor differences.

The heart cookie cutter works perfectly for them. We used them this past weekend to make the lilies. Make a "teepee" of heavy paper to dry them on and it makes it a little easier too.

You can also add some gum tex to the fondant when you are kneading it. This will make it stronger.

I made mine with a paste that I make using 500grams of fondant, with 2 teaspoons of cellogen, 2 teaspoons of cream of tartar and 1/3 teaspoon of eggwhite.

I use this paste for all my modelling and flowers and find it brilliant.

I made calla lilies for the first time a little while ago and used a heart shaped cutter for them. First I made the centres, which I allowed to dry for a while first, then I painted them with sugar glue and rolled them in semolina to get the pollen effect.

I rolled the paste out fairly thinly and cut out the heart shapes, then using a corn husk tool I have I veined the heart shpae and using a ball tool thinned out the edges.

I put some sugar glue at the rounded end of the heart shape, placed the centre on top, and rolled the heart around the centre, then I pinched the tip slightly.

They were dry fairly quickly, but be careful, they can be broken easily.

YEP!!! Now I recognize the name!!! Small world!! icon_lol.gif I am setting here with a big grin on my face......I had such a great time that day. icon_biggrin.gif

I still have the display - they didn't want to make a place for it up front, they said they could put it in the classroom somewhere, so I just keep it here at home. I didn't want it to be destoyed by little people who are usually in that room.

(sorry to get the Cala Lilys' off topic here.....)
