I'm new to cake baking and I LOVE IT! I still have a lot to learn, but think I've found my passion. I've never taken on a new hobby and enjoyed it as much as I have this.

However, once I'm done decorating a cake, I want nothing more to do with it. I don't want to cut it and I don't want to eat it. I could talk about it all day and stare at it picking apart the mistakes and even think about what I could have done better/differently and changes I'd make for next time, but that's about it.

Is it just me? Is that weird. icon_confused.gif

I'm kind of like that. I don't like icing so I would rather have naked cake or cake balls anyday! I don't want to cut my own "masterpiece" ( I use that term loosely!!) so I always make other people do it. Most of the time I don't eat any unless it's a new different flavor. Enjoy the parts you like about it then share it with someone else so they can tell you how great it looks and how amazing you are. Confidence booster and waist saver.

I think just about everyone here is like that. You stare at this thing for hours, sometimes spend weeks to plan the design of it, when your done with it, your DONE with it. "get this thing the heck out of my kitchen!" is my attitude.
Have fun w/ your new hobby, we're always here to help.

No, It's definitely NOT weird! I did it too, still do, and will continue to. It is just the cake decorators way of being perfectionists. In time it will go away little by little, meaning, you won't care AS much as you do now. Cause it is just another thing you can fix for next time!

hahah i am exactly like that... i have only just started learning all about this in december when my boyfriend bought me the essential art of cake decorating for christmas... i seem to make a cake for fun... if i hate i will give it to someone to eat if i like it i let it sit on my counter for a couple days to look at it and analyze it... its funny ... i still look at pictures of past cakes and analyze them... i have always been a bit of a perfectionist tho lol... i am always trying to improve ... i guess when your new to this trying to get better is a good thing... i have read books upon books on the subject... i am only 19 and in fall i am attending school to become a certified pastry chef... this is one of the many things i am going to be learning

I think that's why I have only made 2 cakes that stayed in my house, the others have been for parties or donations. I was the same way when I used to go to the pottery painting studios ... everyone in my family has a large collection of plates, coffee mugs and casserole dishes that I painted, but I only have one platter!

This is so me! I recently made a cake that my husband thought was just beautiful (he is my biggest fan and doesn't see all the flaws I see), and I just told him I was anxious to have him deliver it for me to our friends, who I made it for. I was tired of looking at it and just saw everything that I could have done better. Then I look forward to making my next cake, and getting rid of it too......
