OK... I have another wedding cake in Aug.
The girl only wants 2 tiers.... the top one being her cake topper...6" will be the size for this one...
OK...what I would like to know is ...what size would look nice for the bottom layer..... I don't want it to look too small...she's serving sheet cakes to her guests....but she wants a good cake for the cake cutting and for the family to eat...LOL...
I will also be torting this cake...
Any help and ideas would be greatly appreciated...
TIA

I think a 10" would look nice.

You don't think a 10" would look too small on the cake table for the cake cutting picture?????
I was thinking maybe 12"...
I'll have to see what kind of setting is going to be used for the cake table, then maybe I can go from there...
I love making 10" cakes though...my favorite size to decorate...
Thanks

I agree with Lisa.
Proportionally, a 10" cake rould look best with a 6" top. You need to consider the proportions of the diameters of the cakes.
A 10" cake isn't going to be any taller than a 12" cake, so the height won't look any different in the pictures. A 12" bottom tier would make the cake proportionally look shorter and fatter, kind of like someone squished it.

Would the bride be open to a third 'dummy' tier on the bottom? That way the cake would look bigger without actually having more cake.

I thought a 6" might look funny on top of a 12". Maybe if the 6" is offset? In my photos is a really simple anniversary cake I made. It's a 10" with a 6" on top. It might give you an idea of what your's would look like if you used a 10".

VIewed your photo...
The bride is looking at some wedding cake pictures....to get an idea of what she might want... I think simple is elegant...but we'll see what she picks...LOL...
Oh.... and what would you charge for a cake this size????
I'll let you know what she's decided on, to see if my pricing is near what everyone else's would be.
TIA

I saw the nice comment you left. Thanks! I charged $35 for that cake or about $1/serving. I was given the budget and told to make something simple so I made a cake to fit within that...simple and basic. No frills. If I were to do a wedding cake, I would have put a lot more time into it and probably charged at least twice that.
