Hello....
I need help in putting 2gether some colors for a cake, the colors i would like to use are royal blue, gold (yellow), and purple ( I do not have to use purple). The cake i am doing is the shirt cake (only placing a small design on top of the 12x18 cake....my queastion is can u guys see royal blue for the icing (background), pipe a white border along the edge, with gold and blue crossing over, now how can i use the purple
background... royal blue
tie..... solid gold
border..... white with gold and blue stripes
handkerchief....... not sure
words....... not sure
I am trying to do something to teesue design ( hope u do not mindms teesue)

You are the designer, you should be able to make the decisions. Pleople look to try to offer help, but your question is hard for someone else to answer.
That said, Royal blue is a hard color to get, and will make people lips, tongues and teeth an ugly color of blue/black.
Try adding the purple to the stripes in the tie.
Ok, if your background is royal blue, you're other things are going to have to pop...so the white shirt with the gold tie would be good. What if on the tie you striped it with white and purple? Or did a paisley design or something? Ties are so decorative now, you could do almost anything. But, trying to keep it masculine, I guess is key. I don't know how the purple and blue would look side by side. But maybe doing the border in white like you said, with just the blue and yellow would look good. Maybe just using the purple as an accent color?
This one's tough...
oh, and I would probably leave out the hankerchief, and do the words in yellow. That'll stand out the most, and give it the best contrast.
