I have a request from a bride to do a 6" and 10" tiered cake. She wants the tiers to be taller than normal, however, I do not have the 3" deep pans and since I have never had this request, I hate to purchase these pans. I wondered if I could use the two inch pan and just bake three two inch layers for the 6" and 10" cakes? Even if I do this, is this cake going to look awkward? I've done three wedding cakes and this will be the smallest and it's worrying me the most. Thanks for any advice!

are you going to torte the layers and put a filling? Does she want 3" total including the filling?

i would definitely just use the 2 inch pans. i have baked 3 2inch layers before and it does give that "taller than normal" look to the cake. good luck--this will probably be your easiest cake. icon_smile.gif

that would look really good in my opinion.it's actually the ssame, becuase if you bought the 3' pans wouldn't you be making two layers each of the 6&10 since she wants tall?all in all it's 6in layers you would end up with.I have seen some taller than usual tiers and think they are pretty cool, wish I had this request icon_lol.gif good luck

Yes, I will torte the layers and put in a filling. And I belive she does want 3" total including the filling. That paints another picture.
