I was either going to be a baker or a physical therapist. Now I work in an office. Still trying to figure out what I want to be when I grow up. I want to run a small bed and breakfast when I 'retire'. Of course that won't be for another 35 years or so...
I wanted to be an art teacher, but I got pregnant and couldn't afford College and raise my son at the same time.
Now I'm Cake decorator, with own licensed at home bakery. Guess I stayed in the same kinda thing art-wise!! But instead of teaching arts to other kids I teach my own kids!!!
Lorris
A teacher, and mom to 12.
I have been a preschool teacher...that was enough to turn me off on the teacher thing. I have 4 kids...that was enough to turn me off to 8 more ![]()
I am a SAHM now, with a Criminal Justice degree. I was a test away from getting licensed as a private investigator when I got pregnant with #4. For now, I am just kickin' back, raising my babies. Would like to own a mystery bookstore someday...
I wanted to be a veterinarian, specializing in equine medicine. I was actually accepted to the University of Pennsylvania's veterinary school but couldn't financially swing the tuition. In 1991, it was over $40,000 a year and I was already in debt from getting my bachelor's degrees. I went into cancer research instead, and I've been at it ever since. In addition to my research, I own a "gentlewoman's farm" where I raise chickens, pygmy goats and organic vegetables and I run a bakery business from home in my spare time. During the summer, I sell baked goods, eggs and veggies at a local farmer's market on Saturday mornings. I still ask myself "what if?" about never becoming a vet, but in all I'm very happy with how my life has turned out so far!
I WAS GOING TO BE AN ARCHITECT, STARTED AT THE LOCAL COLLEGE, GOT PREGNANT, SINGLE MOM FOR 9 YEARS, HAVE WORKED AT A CONSTRUCTION COMPANY FOR 12 YEARS, AT LEAST I'M STILL AROUND ARCHITECT ALL DAY LONG.
I wanted to be an astronaut, no joke, had that idea after watching Space Camp. That was a true story right??? LOL
ME TOO & FOR THE SAME REASON,
I'VE WANTED TO BE A SECRETARY (MOM WAS AT THE TIME) AGE 5-7??
THEN I GUESS AN ASTRONAUT
THEN AS I WAS OLDER A COSMETOLOGIST (MAKEUP ARTIST)
THAT WAS MOST LIKELY THE LAST THING BEFORE I GOT MARRIED
FOR THE LAST 10 YEARS I'VE WANTED A CAFE & LATER A BED & BREAKFAST IN THE MTNS

That movie ROCKS!!!
mjw15618 I also wanted to be a vet but I came to realize that couldn't handle it I can't stand to see animals hurting and I get to attached to them and it kills me when I lose one of my own. I know I couldn't handle seeing them put down I had to do this with my cat and it was one of the hardest things a ever had to do. I have great respect for those vets whom you can tell love and are very caring and tender with there animal patients and I think they are a rare find these days....at least in my area... ![]()
I'm better off making goodies in my kitchen... ![]()
P.S you have alot on your plate how do you do it????????
Hi Sweetooth! I agree...it's always hard to put a pet down, but sometimes it's really for the best. I had to put down two cats (due to old age) in the past few years. I actually get made fun of because none of my chickens have ever made it to the soup pot! The older ones don't lay as much any more, but I'm so attached to them that I can't do it. I could never eat something that I named!
And yes, I'm physically exhausted every day of my life! LOL! But it's so worth it to me...my twelve-year old daughter helps out with the animals and my boyfriend (we don't live together) helps me tend my acerage and gardens. And I'm very lucky to have a great supervisor at work...I've been with him for thirteen years and he allows me ALOT of flexibility. As long as the experiments are done, he doesn't care how many hours I work. I'm salaried, so the actual hours really don't matter anyway. I'm off every Friday during the market season so that I have the time to bake and get things ready to go. My work at home is a hundred times more than what I do in the lab! I truly enjoy my research, but my farm is where my heart is.
When I was 8, I wanted to be a nurse, but I can't stand the sight of other people's blood. Then I wanted to be a teacher and went to college to do that, but I was making more money managing a fast food restaurant than the woman that taught my daughter to read. Now I work for the City of Tucson as a cashier/customer service rep.
mjw15618: I've got to tell ya I admire you and all the stamina you have and how lucky you are to to have all that support. I bet it's nice to be on a farm (like I said I love animals...) and have all that land how many acres do you have?

I have just five acres but it's enough to be called a farm in Pennsylvania because I use the property for agricultural purposes. That's why I call it a gentlewoman's (actually gentleman's) farm...an old term for a hobby farm. I'm lucky to have been born a Type A...and I was a hyperactive child and the hyperactivity was something I never outgrew!
mjw15618-so awesome that you grow organic veggies!! We have just recently (in the last year) have been trying hard to maintain an organic diet. I'd say about 70% of what we eat. I find organic produce to be so amazing!!!!! I'd love to grow my own, but not a lot of room in suburbia!!! ![]()
I too wanted to be a vet. I fell sightly short and stopped at Veterinary Technician. I kick myself every day as I see people younger than me coming out of vet school with half of the knowledge I have and 5 times the salary.
I had my son almost 4 years ago and since then I only work 2 days a week. Through the summer though I do fill in work since my DH is a teacher and we won't need day care.
It is a stressful job at times, however there is nothing like saving a life of a puppy and handing it back to the kids who love it! ![]()
I wanted to be a pediatrician or a child psychologist. I went to college and got my psych degree, got amrried, and decided I would rather be a stay at home mommy! Now, I stay at home with my two little boys, 5 and 3, and I get to be all three...mommy, doctor, and shrink...just don't get paid ![]()
As a child, I also wanted to be a vet. As a teenager, I wanted to be a marine biologist. I actually went to Texas A&M for marine biology and marine transportation. Almost had my third mate's license in the merchant marines. Then I realized, I hated what I was doing...mid-life crisis at 24, hmmmm.......dropped that and got my culinary degree (wish I had done that a lot sooner!!). My last "paying" job was the banquet and pastry chef at a private golf club. Now I'm a SAHM and working toward a home based cake business. If that doesn't work out, I plan on opening a New Orleans style po'boy shop in my area.
I wanted to be Minnie Mouse at Disney World! Now I'm a SAHM and loving every minute!
When I was in grade school I wanted to be an archeologist, then specifically a Egyptologist. I'm in the legal field now. But I continue to watch every show about ancient history on TLC, Discovery Channel, and History Channel --I'm still that kid at heart.
I wanted to be a chemical engineer. I've been a stay at home mom for 9 years and wouldn't trade it for anything. I would like to finish school some day though.
I wanted to be a teacher, nurse, and a mom.
When i started college I went in to education, then shortly after I changed to nursing, Then I finally changed to Helath information management (which i will finally graduate in May). I have decieded that I am graduating with that degree- no more switching! ![]()
Even though I have recently thought about switching to cosmotology or a pastry chef. I don't think that I will ever make up mind. lol
