I would like to reach out to my CC friends and ask you all to say a little prayer for me and my girls tonight. Our 6 month old beagle got hit by a car this afternoon. Right now it seems he is going to be ok, but he has a fractured pelvis and may require surgery. It is right in the middle of the socket portion of his ball and socket joint of his rear right leg. I'm dealing with a lot of guilt on letting him get out there, and the girls (ages 6 and 5) are having a pretty rough time because they saw it happen. My oldest daughter will turn 7 tomorrow. Happy birthday right? I will find out in the morning whether they will be doing surgery or not. Just keep us in your thoughts please. You know how animals are like your kids...
I have children and I have pets and when your pet is hurt I think it is even worse than your kids because they can't talk to you and tell you what is wrong. I am nursing two sick kitties right now and feel so helpless. At least with my children I have had plenty of experience and can handle pretty much anything they throw at me but I'm a mess when my kitties are sick. My heart goes out to you and your family and will keep you all in my prayers tonight. Be strong Mom, your family needs you right now. All my best.
Sharing a prayer I pray for all sick and injured animals. Will keep yours and your family in ours.....
Heavenly Father,
you created all things for your glory
and made us stewards of this creature.
If it is your will, restore it to health and strength.
Blessed are you , Lord God,
an holy is your name for ever and ever. Amen
Keep us posted on the progress. Sending good thoughts your way!
Kellie, Don't be too hard on yourself keep in mind that you didn't do it deliberately it was an ACCIDENT. Beagle puppies are hard to keep hold of and they do get away. I've got a Cocker Spaniel puppy that does the same thing! I hope all works out well for everyone. Goodluck!
Oh, I am so sorry about your doggie! You will all be in my thoughts!
Kellie, your post gave me the chills. A few years ago my husband was in an accident and had the same exact injury!! Fractured pelvis in the ball socket region. This may sound silly, but with my husband they said this is a tricky area, they pin it right?? Or see if it will heal on its own. My DH had to heal on its own!! (Lots of rest!!) Of course this may have nothing to do with a dogs pelvis!!! LOL I'm so sorry for you, your dog will be fine i'm sure!! He will just need lots of love and attention for a while which sounds like you and your girls will be more than happy to give him!! ![]()
((((hugs))))

I'm so sorry to hear about your puppy. I agree with the others, don't guilt yourself, puppies are so hard to corral. They are always so excited! I bet he'll recover well. When I was around 6 my puppy who was only a few months old fell out of a moving car window when my mom had to hit the brakes . . long story. ANyhow the vets said if we elected for surgery that she would need pins put in her hip and leg which would cause arthritis trouble and a shorter life span as a result. We elected for the surgery and she lived a very happy 14 years! You and your family will be in my thoughts and prayers. Best of luck.
The news was good! Ernie (the puppy) is going to do well for the most part. We were given the choice of letting it heal on its own or putting in a plate (for around $1200). The vet said that the fracture was already pretty well aligned so the plate would probably not do anymore for him that just rest. So now for the next 4 weeks we have to keep him from running or jumping. He is on pain meds and anti-anxiety meds. Yesterday it was very painful for me to pick him up to take him out to the bathroom, but today he is not even flinching. So that is a great sign. I appreciate everyone who left me a comment, prayer, and thought the other day. i think they were heard loud and clear. No internal injuries and only 1 broken bone, that's amazing for a puppy that weighs only 14 lbs and was hit by a car! Thanks again everyone!
We are very relieved! And each day is getting better. He's actually walking around the yard now (on a leash of course!) and he is able to get up and down without yelping in pain every time. Every now and then it catches and he cries a bit, but it's not every time like it was the first couple of days. 14lbs of courage and never give up in that one there!
