Next time they ask for cake tell them you have a really great potato salad you'd like to bring.
I tell people, I am getting into the wedding cake business. For me, I don't want to get involved in all the mess and time unless it's a big order and a fun challenge. So If they aren't getting married, they aren't getting cake. Any cakes I've done for free, I've offered to make.
Don't feel bad saying "NO". If you really wanted to make a cake anyway, make one and give it to someone else who appreciates your time and talent.
