You can either take a brick of rice crispies bigger than you need and sculpt it. Or you can just compress and shape it to your needed shape straight from the recipe.
If I'm doing something small. I just buy a premade snack size and moosh it to the shape I need.
If I'm doing something bigger, I made the recipe and either mold it like a brick or start playing with it like playdough.
They never really set rock hard.. you can mold them when they are set up a bit. And if they do get really hard you can warm them up a little and they get soft again.
I also have used the pre-made Rice Krispie treats to mold small items with. It works really well. They are pliable enough to work with.
I like to use the flexible pans if I need a block to sculpt from. Before I had one, I used to plastic line cardboard boxes and break them apart.
In your case, for a tree, how big is the tree? Just small trees I would use a premade treat and mold it to a cone shape and stick a lollipop stick in the end. A large tree, I would get a box of rice cereal (yes, the generic stuff) and marshmallows and make it yourself and as its cooling, mold it to your cone shape. Butter your hands to not stick to it.
