I am doing my first Wedding cake this weekend and I have yet to purchase a cake stand. I will be doing a 8' 10" 12" all double layers. BC icing with dots and ribbon around the base. Not much deco. Just simple. Would a 12" seperator plate hold up the weight? They are quiet sturdy and my small turntable said it could hold up to 100 lbs ( I think- its been I while since I tore the label off) Was wandering if I should use another glass plate under this just for extra protection. What do you gals think?

You are talking about those white plastic separator plates??/ If so, with all the weight I can just see it splitting. Aren't they pretty thin too? Wouldn't do all that work and take a chance.

The separator plates will hold the weight, but a 12" plate for a 12" cake will be too small.
