What is it?

What is it used for??

The only thing that vaguely comes to mind for a vendors license number is a permit from the farmers market? Is this what it is???

Check with your local liceincing agent. I believe it is for you not to have to pay taxes on products that you sell. And to put taxes on the products that you sell. I may be off a little but I think I am in the right ball park.

Not knowing where you live I can't really help you. You might try a search for vendor permit and the the name of the city and state you are in. I did it that way and got all sort of information for my city.

Sorry I can't help more.

I think you need to provide some add'l info. From my understanding, there is a difference in getting a license/permit to be a farmer's market vendor vs. for example, your Registered Retail Merchant's Certificate (RRMC - this is what it's called in Indiana) which authorizes you to collect sales tax .... this is the number that suppliers generally ask for before they give you wholesale pricing.

OK, more info-- I'm trying to make my cake making official, so that I can get discount product from ck products. But to do this one of the things I need is a vendor license number. My search came up with a lot of different things, and I don't know which type of a vendor license I need. By the way, I'm in WA state. Thanks, I'm kinda lost here. icon_eek.gif

On their website ( http://ckproducts.com/ckp_becomecust.asp ), they are asking for a tax number or vendor number (among a list of the requirements). They want to confirm that you are a legit (store front?) business and not "some mom who makes cakes" before they will issue wholesale pricing to you.

If you have a sales tax license, federal ID number, EIN, that should suffice, along with the other information they are asking for.

Do you know what exactly I NEED? I've been looking through stuff and it's overwhelming almost!!! So, if I could figure out just what I need, that would help. Thank you! I appreciate everyone who has taken the time to help me.

In Ohio you get a vendor's license from your county auditor's office. It allows you to collect sales tax on the products you sell. When I worked for our Auditor's office all you really needed to bring to the office was youself and it took about five minutes and $25 to get one and we just typed it up while you waited. I'm not sure about WA state, but I would start by calling your county auditor's office. hth

Sounds like maybe you need a state tax number. I'm going to get one for my woodworking business. The way my tax friend explained it I can do my wood and cakes under the same tax #. I buy my materials without paying state sales tax then charge the tax when I sell my products and pay that in to the state on a quarterly basis.

I don't know what a vendors license is.

I'm in Ohio also and this is exactly what I did to get a Vendor's Number. I got it so I could purchase wholesale from suppliers!
