To start off--I am not trying to 'stir the bucket' so to speak, but I just want to clear my concience...

I just logged onto the site for the first time in a couple of days and saw this post and I have a pretty good Idea that it was pointed to me--at least now I feel like I have to post this because I have a bathtub cake posted in my photos that does not say anything like 'I got this idea from....', in fact it doesn't say anything at all in the discription area--in fact, none of my photos have a discription I don't think...
...and this is why...
It has always been hard to download pictures from my desktop (firewall stuff or something) and I have a laptop that tends to shutdown because it gets hot but I can upload when it will stay on... the other day I had to get some information off of the laptop so I set it up where it couldn't overheat and began getting the information I needed off of it and figured while I was at it I would upload some pictures off of my external hard drive to the site since I can't from my desktop... well, I was in such a hurry that I didn't add any discriptions or anything to any of the photos that I uploaded because it would take more time and I didn't want the computer to shut down on me...and then afterwards I was going to get on and edit the description area and come to find out--that's not an option...

So in this post I will address anyone that may have influenced the cakes in my Photo Section....
1.) Wilton Course I, II, III and Fondant course cakes are inspired from the books provided and the manual that came with the gumpaste/fondant cutters...
2.) My daughters First Birthday cake (Butterflys) was inspired by a Wilton Yearbook Cake...
3.) The Cupcake Bouquet is inspired by Cambo--except I've seen them before, I think, but can't be quite sure...so inspiration goes to Cambo...
4.) The Tuxedo Strawberries for the grooms cake were made following a tutorial someone gave me in a response to my "Tuxedo Strawberries??" post a few months ago or so...
5.) The USC GroomsCake was more/less my idea--I think--I mean you can never tell...but I didn't 'copy' it from anyone...
6.) The Carnival Cupcakes for DS's birthday were inspired from the Wilton Cupcake Book...
7.) The Baby Angel Cake was my idea--I think--DH said he wanted a cake and I just started decorating... But I'm sure someone on here has made a 3-d baby angel on a cloud before...
8.) The Blue Scroll Cake is another 'play cake' for me--plenty of people do scroll work and I can't possibly name them all...
9.) The bathtub cake inspiration came from a few of them I've seen on here, but mainly from AmyBeth
10.) The fishing/golf groomscake was my Idea-I think... I've learned about wire effects and such through CC and different books...
11.) For the spiderman cake I got my instructions from Angelina but she got them from stephanie214 and here is the link http://frostingfun.blogspot.com/ --I made a few changes--but definately inspired by Angelina/stephanie214 and I think it goes back farther than that...
I think that's all but if I miss someone or something--I apologize...

Now, regardless if the initial post was referring to me or not I would like to invite any and everyone to PM me if you have an issue because, chances are, I didn't mean to 'P' you off or step on any toes...I'm here to learn and get advise and not to cause conflict so I hope that this post ends any drama that might have been directed at me...

...anyway... like I said before I'm here to learn and everyday is a learning experience for me when I sign in here and I will continue to do so unless anyone has an issue with it...

Thank you CCers for being there to lend a helping hand and I hope to continue to post and I'm truely sorry for any drama that I might have caused....

I'm so sorry that this happened to you. We all are inspired by each other and frankly sometimes I forget who it was that inspired me for a cake because I see so many beautiful ones on here. I know I probably have slipped up on thanking people too.( sorry ) but I would take too much offense.

I personnaly hope you keep learning here. I myself have not figured out how to post let alone comment on my own posts here yet. I am hoping you are not going to let some of the few get to you. I am glad that you posted your pictures in the first place. Boy you post here was long. Hopfully your temper is shorter. I am on your side (if there needs to be a side). With all the people who post pictures here it is sometimes hard to remember where we get our inspirations from. I have even seen the tub scene in a Wilton book.

lybby - do not stress about it. You went over and above, which is not needed. IMO - if folks do not want their cakes "copied" they should not post pics of them. thumbs_up.gif I am personally flattered if anyone chooses to do so from one of my cakes. That is the highest form of flattery. It is ridiculous to expect people to research to make sure they can thank whoever may have come up with some idea first. Keep on posting, and don't fret! thumbs_up.gif

I agree with Quadcrew. Let it be said right now that if you EVER see anything I've made and it somehow inspired you or made you want to emulate it in any way for something of your own, feel free! I would be most flattered even if I never knew or was given credit. Some may take offense like was mentioned in an earlier post but as for me, I'm just glad to have made something and that someone might find it worth trying themselves. I don't consider that copyright infringement. If you took my cake and called it yours, that is different. But in this case that is not even the question. Keep on Cake'n Lybby!!

I should just cut-n-paste Quadcrew's and Sunny's comments because I agree 100% with them.

I'm flattered when a cake is copied or is deemed to be inspiring, and I just don't understand getting your knickers in a knot over not getting credit for it.

"It is amazing how much people can get done if they do not worry about who gets the credit." ---Sandra Swinney

I agree with the others, don't feel bad one little bit. I'm glad this hasn't scared you away, that always seems to be the outcome of posts like that one icon_sad.gif

I know some people have gotten very upset over someone copying their work without giving them credit. I don't think my cakes are that great, but I have had a couple of people ask me if they could use the designs. I am extremely flattered that someone goes through that much trouble to pm me. I do not mind at all if my cakes are used as inspiration. I would love to see their take on my design. Heck, I got most of the designs from an invitation of some sort, so I copied it. LOL. Maybe Heath could add the edit tabb that is need to fix this problem once you load a picture. HEATH, can it be done? Hope this helps in the future for everyone who needs it. Keep up the good work no matter who inspires you.

Don't worry about it! I think that person was being a bit too sensitive because, honestly, I look at SO many pictures that I am sure that I take their ideas and they all become a conglomerate cake at some point. If you remeber to do it, it is nice, but otherwise, this site is for sharing and getting ideas from others. So go where your inspiration leads you, and don't feel guilty!

Again, like everyone else said, IF SOMEONE DOESN'T WANT THERE WORK COPIED, THEY SHOULD NOT POST IT!!!!!!!! Isn't that what this site is all about, inspiring others. Even if you try to give credit to someone, you later find out that they just copied it from other and so forth, so in the end, what's the point?

Just to let you know, my laptop does that sometimes, so I got a lap top fan (not sure what it is called) but its like $20 and it fits right under neath the laptop and you plug it into it, and it has two fans that cool it down...haven't had a problem ever since!!! You can find them at best buy target, stuff like that... Good luck!

You know its not like we can have our cake designs copyrighted like Polly's cakes did a few years ago. We all know the design as "Dr Suess" or topsy turvy cakes. She copywrited the name "?" don't remember the name now. But you all understand where I am going with this now. I hope. Let's let it go now.

I think it's so sad that anyone, like Lybby2000, should feel compelled to go back, review her pics, and write such a detailed mea culpa. icon_cool.gif

If you post the pics, then you run the risk--of anyone viewing them and possibly copying them or getting ideas that they will later incorporate into their work--either deliberately or subconsciously.

If you feel so terribly proprietary over your creations--THEN DON'T POST THEM IN A PUBLIC FORUM, for pete's sake, and don't go around trying to make me feel like some dirty, guilty thief if I happen to make my version of your creation and I forget (or am unable, or don't choose) to acknowledge you !!!!!!!!

Off the soapbox--for now....

I would take all this talk with a grain of salt especially right now that we are still using a Beta Version of the upgrades on CC.
We are not able to use all the functions they are trying or wanting to add just yet.

I could not really see a link between your picture and the few posts I saw before. Your cakes are really fun and you do a great job.

I agree that it's good to say thank you or give credit where credit is due, but like so many have said on this post. sometimes you see something and you cant remember where and you might have gotten your actual inspiration.

For those that get insulted, then like a few have written, dont post your pictures and we wont be inspired, but just so you know there are going to be times when 2 people will come up with almost the same design.

So let's all take it easy and be Thankfull that we have such a cool and safe environment to share our work, our creations and our ideas.
We can all gripe about stuff but please this is not the place to be nasty to each other. I really hate that.

Like I said on another post, a few people sent me questions and asked about a cake I made, they went on to make their own with much better execution than mine and I noticed. I was really a good feeling to know they had gotten an idea from me and expanded. They did not mention my cake and that's ok with me, if I wanted to keep my cakes to myself I would not post them here.

Lybby2000 keep on making your cakes and posting them! You make awesome ones!

Good Luck

I dont have any idea the threads you are refering to but I know I dont always thank everyone if I have seen a picture like mine on here i mean there are only so many ways to do certain cakes for example I did a sponge bob cake a few months back I dont feel like I copied any ones cake I mean there are only so many ways to make a pineapple. I think people should give credit where credit is do but people also cant assume just because a cake someone else posted is similar to one of theres that said person copied it. you know?

Couldn't have said it better.

I honestly would be so pleased someone copied me I wouldn't care if they credited me, I would be bragging to my husband though. icon_lol.gif

Lybby.
I just want to let you know that i posted on that original thread that i was so disheartened. I am on this site everyday and here i thought that we weren't allowed to use inspiration from other cc'ers.
OR that we would HAVE to make a blanket statement thanking whoever we got the idea from.
I know now that isn't the case now. And I am so glad.... because frankly i look at so many photos on this site and others and tv and magazines...i have no idea where they come from.
SOOOOOO i completely agree with quadcrew !!!!!!!!!!
Hats off!!!!!!!!!!!!!
