I'm at a creativity road block. A lady wants a Backyardigans cake for her daughter's 2nd bday. She doesn't really care which character and wants it simple. I thought about making all 5, but that's REALLY hard to fit on a 9x13. So then I thought of doing just Uniqua as she's "girly" but which should I do?

Hmmm... you know what? Her dad is a TKD instructor - actually owns a business... didn't they have an episode of tae kwon do? or some martial arts?

What kind of border for "back yard"? I don't want to do just shells (plus, my shells stink! LOL)

I seen that episode, they were dressed in nina outfits trying to get "the Great Pie", lol. In the episode her and pablo were the ninjas and they were trying to sneak up the hill to the bakery at the top of the hill. That might be a cute set up. Have a hill with trees on it, and grass. Then the bakery was on top of the hill, wasnt very big or fancy, it was just white if I remember correctly. HTH some, Jen

how about doing chocolate transfer of the characters and standing them up on the side of the cake. you can use the coloring book images on nickjr.com. maybe pipe "grass" for the bottom border for the backYARD feel. my daughter loves watching this show. it should be a fun cake to do. good luck!

I am not a "cake person" yet so i dont really like to give info, but i do know backyardigans, lol, sad. You could do music notes around the cake since they sing all the time or something like that. ill keep a lookout on anything good!

I did a Backyardigans cake. It is in my pics. Pretty basic though. I have an edible image printer, so I just printed a pic from the internet. It was a colorful cake though.

wouldn't it be cute to incorporate both what "eneq" suggested about the grass as a border and like "amdodson" suggested. you could put musical notes around the sides. just a thought! or maybe somehow incorporate fences around the border?

There are a few of them in the gallery. Just do a search for "Backyardigans", in case this link doesn't work.

thanks everyone. One thing I forgot - no chocolate transfers - buttercream only. I've searched all of cake central for inspiration and found a couple cute ones, but since I couldn't find their "source" of their image, it's too hard to do as a FBCT. I ended up doing Uniqua whispering into Tasha's ear, but we'll see. I tried a new BC recipe and I don't know if it will turn out. I might be starting over!

I had it done by 8 am this morning in case I needed time to redo it. I'm not sure I'll use the "julie's not so sweet buttercream" again. It's light and creamy, but it "barely" crusts and takes a LONG time for it to do so. Plus, for some reason, it has a strange after taste - kind of like some bakery cakes do too.

But the main thing is - they LOVED it - phew!

Here's the link to the gallery photos:

Not as smooth as I would like, but with the buttercream not crusting really, it actually turned out smoother than I would have thought.
