You can find molds in the most odd places! I use molds from the candle section at the craft store. I use a mixture of water and superfine sugar. It is all in the timing. You can bake the ouert shell to remove the moisture. If you bake too long the outside can get too hard to sccop. Same concept as most pressed sugar. You don'y have to bake them either. It is like making a sugar egg.

One thing I learned recently, do not use your chocolate molds for sugar and then expect them to work for chocolate. the sugar will scratch the surface of the molds, and it it bad for the chocolate.

Mark them "sugar" molds to keep them separate from chocolate. You wouldn't want to ruin your chocolates.

I can sell here but cannot advertise-I am working on the space for my bakery. I do not do business on a regular basis so it is legal. I just have a gallery site to view www.cakesbymaryann.com

Hey, I recognize that cake from TV last night!!!!!! The pink draped wedding cake from OSSAS. It''s so exciting!!! Kudos!

They showed my jewelry box and clematis on the show "designer's wedding cake challenge" Maybe the judges didn't prefer it, but the camera loved it. It was shown about 4 times.

It's in my pics, I finally uploaded it. This year it's a specimen young rosebush in a decorative pot. That scares me. I think last year I didn't know enough to be scared. I'd probably rather do a wedding cake this year, but I realize now how perfect everything needs to be. Anyway, I got fun prizes just for entering, and Hubby and I left the kids and stayed in a B&B for the weekend. It was really fun. I swear I thought I'd never do anything with that abstract pastillage cake topper Andrew Shotts demonstrated, but I actually used it on my turquoise wedding cake. Go figure.

What thread is this? oops. Sorry to get off track.

Back to the sugar molds. In American Cake Decorating last issue--if the mag loves you and sent your copy--There is a cake topper made of cast sugar. They just used a plastic or paper cup and it looks great!!! The first time I saw the Gail Watson sugar boxes on Sugar rush, I thought it was waaaay out of my league. Now I totally could do it. I don't think they ever mentioned what the tops were made out of. My guess is pastillage. It dries like crazy. You could never get gumpaste that thick to dry appropriately.

Very nice ! I saw that one too and thought it was fabulous! I know I took home so many prizes over fifteen and I won $100.00 Cash! It was great! I am just getting ready for this year. I was chatting with someone earlier and mentioned that it can get pretty intense being there! having cameras follow you around and microphones and stuff! I had so much fun!
