My bows of the loop bow keeps on breaking.
I did everything like in the how- to in the articles but the fondant seems to be very fragile...
Any help ??? It is as a topper for a wedding cake tomorrow.
i used fondant with tylose, it is supposed to be like gumpaste.
I prefer to use gumpaste when making bows. Your breakage may be due to the fact that your fondant isn't thick enough. Gumpaste is much stronger than fondant and fondant is too sensitive to moisture in my opinion. A 50/50 blend is better if you have to use fondant. Take a look at my pix's. I have a gumpaste bow there. It's a close up picture so you can see how thick each loop is. Good luck. ![]()
that's what I'm thinking too, that the fondant is too thin. maybe try rolling it thicker...
i did it again in marzipan and it went great. you can see it in my photo's.
I had a litlle panic though
thank you fot the help!
Thanks. No, I didn't lay them down - My husband built me a board with plastic dowel pegs that I place the loops over to let them dry. I have made the bow with loops that I've laid down for a softer look though. Depends on what effect your going for..... They're both lovely. ![]()
Sounds like the fondant/gumpaste might be rolled to thin? The last picture I posted with the loopy bow has an all fondant bow - I used Satin Ice and rolled it between 1/16" and 1/8". I've dried them by hanging them and by laying them on their sides and they're both fine. One thing - after removing them from the dowel maybe you should lay them on their side for a bit to make sure that the part of the loop that is in contact with the peg is actually thoroughly dry. Is that the spot where they're breaking?
