So right now I should be in the kitchen. Cleaning it. My house is a disaster, I have 3 cakes to make for this weekend (one is due tonight), piles and piles of laundry, and no desire to do anything. I've already baked and leveled the cake for tonight but I need to make the filling and get it decorated. I have 2 more cakes (one of them a complex 3-d cake) to make for Sunday. And yet, I'm on CC....
I don't know where to start, how do people get everything done and still have time for other things???

hummmmm I feel that way right now. I am doing a cake for tomorrow, and I made my first fondant cake last night. I am also wanting to make another fondant cake just to see what happens. I have laundry to put away, I need to vacuum, and clean off my dining room table. I have to head to the store, since I some how ran out of powered sugar, and had no idea.

And if you have 5 kids, I should not be complaining at all. I just realized I am out of cake boards too.
I saw your fondant cake it looks wonderful!!!

Yeah, I can ignore it for a while, but my hubby and my oldest daughter went up North for DH's grandma's funeral so I know he would like it clean when he gets home. It's the least I can do for him since he puts up with me. He never batted an eye when I spent $50 we didn't have on cake supplies last week.
I did straighten up a bit but I'm just waiting for my sister now so I can go to the store (I don't have a car).

First , start with the dishes.......I can't do ANYTHING with a full sink.......It will make your kitchen look WONDERFUL, and give you encouragement to keep going....... Just do one thing at a time, and try not to think of all the other stuff....... Then get going on the cakes..... clean up as you go so you aren't over whelmed with ANOTHER mess..... (((( HUG )))) Been there, done that, and it is no fun when EVERYTHING needs to be done at one time..... Believe me, it DOESN"T....... BABY STEPS.......

I know exactly what you all mean but I have an odd but a workable solution.

Drink WATER.

I'm not kidding. When your energy is low or you are grumpy/irritable, drink water.

I always feel really overwhelmed when my house looks or feels dirty to me. I have two small children at home, so of course it is hard to get everything done. Sometimes, when I need to decorate something and don't have time to clean, I will just make the house "look" clean by putting stuff in closets and in drawers. icon_lol.gif Then I will quickly clean off the table and get my stuff organized. The house may not really clean, but at least it is a little less cluttered and I can feel less frustrated while I work! icon_lol.gif

grama_j you are a FlyBaby aren't you icon_wink.gif

Set your timer for 15 min and clean your sink and kitchen. Then do some cake stuff (get them in the oven). While they are baking set your timer again and do 15 min of laundry. Then go back to cakes.

I am usually in the same boat as you! My kitchen is a mess right now, but I got my cakes in the oven and I am heading up to laundry now.

Post again if you need more inspiration - I'll be doing the same thing as you today - PLUS I have to go serve lunch at the school in about 30 min! Yikes, better go get cleaned up! Good Luck!

Well I ended up going with my sister after cake boards. Got the cake crumb coated and in the freezer, I've been cleaning up as I go and after I'm done decorating I'll wash dishes since I use alot of dishes while I'm decorating. The living room will have to wait, and the laundry will get folded tonight after the banquet......

My alter ego a.k.a. "mean mommie" unfortunately takes over when I have cakes due,...and the house is a mess,...... I actually let the house go this week just for the very purpose of defeating mean mommie..... but my mother is due here tomorrow(the ORIGINAL mean mommie!! icon_rolleyes.gif ) so I'm taking a break right now from my mad cleaning spree-I was getting dizzy from the bleach fumes.... take a breath...and just don't be so hard on yourself(easier said than done I know icon_lol.gif
