Just got back from the local B and N and found the best cake decorating book ever. They even had a couple of CP's books there but this one (in my opinion) far surpassed the others on the shelf. I don't mind spending money but I sure hate wasting it and this book was $35. The name of the book is Spectacular Cakes by Mich Turner. The cakes are fabulous, the instructions are very clear and so many ideas! If you get a chance to please check it out, you won't want to miss this one.

P.S. hadn't heard anyone mentioning this one sbefore so I thought I would bring it to your attention.

Thanks for the recommendation! I'm feeling like I need a new book! I've already taken CP's "cakes to dream on" book out of the library like three times, LOL.

I just checked Amazon.com and they have Mich's book for $23, and free super saver shipping if you spend over $25.

This is one of my all time favorite books. Right now, I am in the middle of making the chocolate roses and the cigarellos were availabe from a supplier here in Los Angeles. They were 23 a box for over a hundred which is pretty reasonoble compared to what was found over the net. I haven't made the cakes yet though. Has anyone else made them and what do you think? Thanks

Mich Turner is my hero!!! I have had this book for quite a while now & LOVE it ... her website is always great for ideas too. How she gets her piped dots (pearls) so straight & uniform I will never know. I don't know whether anyone else here has tried her recipes ... but I tried the Chocolate Truffle Torte for my husbands birthday cake (decorated by my son & I! ... I may get the courage to upload one of my cake pictures one of these days!), and from the 8" round ingredients, I managed to get an 8" round & a 7" round cake .... don't know quite what happened there!! But my husband was delighted to get a two tier birthday cake all the same! Her book has beautiful elegant cakes ... .and if you like this book then you'll also like Peggy Porschen's 'Pretty Party Cakes' ...... I'm convinced they trained together ... their designs have a similarity about them. Equally wonderful book!

You can buy it on Amazon.com for 21.95 and I believe with 25.00 you get free shipping.

I got mine at Amazon. Also check out Borders and Waldens books for 25-30% off. You have to join their rewards club. It doesn't cost anything to join. Because of Amazons's shipping (still less expensive) you can save a little more with the coupons. Find them online. Or go into the stores. Often when you buy something there at the top of the receipt you will see a savings for your next purchase/
