Some people=( I cannot believe she would choose that cake over what you were going to make, there is just NO comparison! Ohh, and I sure would love, I mean LOVE, the recipe if you get a chance please. It sounds so delicious!! Jen
I am gathering my recipes and after little one goes to bed I'm going to post them both. My caramel cheesecake, plain cheesecake and my butter pound cake with rum simple syrup. So I'll post links when they are posted in recipes so everyone has the chance to see them. I am going to spend my saturday eve making that cake she wanted and I'm giving it to the local women's shelter for mother's day for their residents they house. They only house 15. So should go over well with them and staff.

That's such a nice idea! You are a sweetheart. Your ex-customer is not. lol
That is why I will NEVER even start to bake a cake until the check is rec'd.
I think what you are doing with the cake is a wonderful idea. How nice. Silly me was thinking "Lucky you. Now you get cheesecake tonight!" 
I do love the way you put the reason to her on why she should have the good recipes though.
I guess when all else fails you just have to say The Customer is ALWAYS right and should get what THEY want.
I happen to be one that has rarely found a cheesecake I didn't like. But I've never tried the no bake Jello one. But there is NOTHING as good as homemade cheese cake.

this just in....nutty woman calls me back and says she talked to one of the "bakers" at walmart and she can do the "exact" same cake as theirs for her in a 12in like I was for 40 bucks so she thinks "this time, she;ll save a little money."

Well, I can see it now. After she's had that "other" cake she'll be back I tell ya. So be prepared.
She'll explain to ya how bad the other one was and that it wasn't at all what she was thinking.
So, you'll probably sit there politely nodding your head in agreement and then, THEN, she'll pop the question..........Will you make me another cake...blah blah blah???
You'll sit there for a coupla minutes looking at her seriously. and after that wonderful pause is over you'll quietly say........Hmmm, I'm sorry you feel that way but, I will be booked for the next six months. You know weddings and graduations and all that stuff. I am soo sorry that I can't help you right now. Maybe that decorator at Walmart will be able to help you. (You chuckle under your breath with glee at the look of desperation on her face [am I bad or what?] because as we all know, Karma is a "bleep".)

Well, who knows, maybe the customer just decided she like the taste of the walmart cake better. Truthfully, I'm not a fan of "real" cheesecake. Maybe I've never had it done well before, but I do like the no-bake stuff. I don't know, if I decided that I wanted a cake with this kind of filling, I wouldn't neccessarily be happier with a cake with a different filling, even if it was more authentic and gourmet. People just have different tastes. For instance I love coconut, but hate bananas and I can taste even the hint of banana hidden in anything. My husband is the opposite, he loves bananas in things, but hates coconut and can tell what it is in immediately, even if it just uses coconut oil. Everyone is different. It is her money, she deserves to spend it how she wants, and if she is going to give you her money, she deserves to get what she wants.

I agree she should get what she wants.
some people do like it, I think it's totally up to your individual tastes! 
I just prefer the baked kind. But I like my cheesecakes sweet not so"cheesy", does that make sense?
But the ladies at the shelter LOVED the cake and even invited me to join them for their luncheon. Which I did. Now I had several ask me how I make cakes and what is fondant etc.
So I am going to work with their therapist and activities director and go in one day to do a demo!!!!
How exciting is that!!!!!!
So I gave an extra prayer for the walmart cake lady, because of her the ladies and I can do something nice for each other and I get to make another cake!!!! What else could you want?

Oh 2sdae!!!! That sounds great! You know they will love having you come in and do a demo! You are so kind! What did they think of the cake? I agree, I like flavored/sweeter cheesecake better than the real cheesy ones. I make white chocolate raspberry and key lime cheesecakes. I am going to try an almond praline one today. Did you get to post your cheesecake recipes too?

That is so great. I am glad that it all turned out for you and the ladies at the shelter. Who knows you might inspire some of them to bake. What great therapy that would be for them and interest for the future. Just remind them not to all bake everyday!!! 
Anyhow, about your previous customer/cancellation I wish I could be nice about it. But I cannot stand people like that. How rude can she get.
Like a few of the cc's have already mentioned. I would not make another cake for her unless she pre-pays or I would just be booked. She can go and see the other decorator. It's no good to loose a customer, but IMHO to "steal" a recipe from Wallyworld is not a good idea. You were doing it right to make your own from the basic Idea. I would hate to see what happens to this poor Walmart "decorator" if her boss ever finds out. 
Anyhow, let us know if the customer ever comes back to you.

After reading thorugh it all I have to say what a nice thing to come from such a PITA! I hope you have fun doing the demo for the women at the shelter and I can't wait to see your recipes.
I agree.. no more cakes for her unless she prepays..
actually I dropped her an email today and told her I really hoped her cake was fabulous and if she needed another cake in future keep me in mind.
Now, I have added a clause in my general contract stating "1/2 balance of cake due upon reserving date and design of cake, to be refunded only if order is canceled 2 weeks in advance.. Balance of said cake is to be paid 1 week before cake is due to be picked up/delivered.
Also added no checks as payment due to hearing a lot of people receiving bad checks. Deff don't wanna deal with that one either!
Good for you, it's so unfortunate that we have to make all these rules just because a few ruin it for everyone else.
We have to protect ourselves and all the time, just sad that there are no many people out there just willing to take advantage of us.
