I've just had a lady on the phone who wants a Star Wars theme cake for Saturday - fine, but I can't think of what to do! It only needs to serve around 15 people (but decent-sized party servings!), and most of the cakes in the galleries look much bigger than that. Please someone help me think of something - I need to get back to her today with an idea and a quote. Thank you!

I have just uploaded a starwars cake I made in the galleries.

Don't you just love it when the customer wants us to come up with ALL of the ideas? Star Wars is a real tough one! If it were me I would probably use an edible image - those characters are not easy to reproduce.

There are some good graphics out there that would be good for FBCTs. Like this one:

Bouncyboing - love that cake, but my modelling skills are rubbish! I love the light sabre too, but I wouldn't know where to start with something like that (how would I get that shape icon_confused.gif ?! This is going to have to be picked up and travel back via train, so I need it to fit in a box, and I don't have that many lying around!

how about buying a plastic starwars toy and placing on a cake - decorated simply - stars etc. the child would then have the cake and a toy to play with too (or is that cheating?)

OK, how about a square cake like Bouncyboing's covered in a darker blue buttercream/fondant (don't know which she wants yet!), with the stars on the side, with one of my infamous painted fondant plaques of the Darth Vader mask posted by Crimsicle in the centre and then the greeting either in fondant cut out letters or buttercream around it. How does that sound?

I would buy star wars figures. Copying any pictures is copywrite infringement and you could get into trouble.

Nobody here is going to turn you into the logo police. As long as you don't sell the cake to a mysterious man on a corner wearing a trenchcoat and a hat pulled down over his face, you'll be fine.

Yeah, thanks Crimsicle! If the Lucus corporation want to fly over to Europe and catch my butt, well fine, but I would think they'd have better things to do with their time (and money!). Besides there are plenty of other places in this country doing the exact same thing and I'll take them all down with me icon_twisted.gificon_twisted.gificon_twisted.gif (just kidding!).

LOL!!! I'm sure you will not have a problem & if so just tell them DarthVader sent you!!!
I think a square or round cake with the logo & one of the character weather it's plastic or not, would be nice. How old is the child? If the child is younger you probably don't need much detail other than the logo & a pic or a figurine...

Make fun if you will. It is not only a legal thing but a values/moral choice. Using anything other than bought figures for the sale of a cake is stealing. I for one choose not to compromise my values and morals for a $10 cake. I tell all my customers up front that I do not do character cakes unless the items are bought off the shelf to add to which I charge.

I used the rolled fondant and then put characters on top in battle scene. Used gold luster dust and dusted on stars as well. My son who is 6 loved it!!

Well, the first time I accepted money for a cake baked in my home, I guess my fate was sealed, anyway. I'm going to hell in a handbasket. There's no saving me!
