Just for interests sake, I came across this web site where they create an edible tartan. I've read on another site that this can be created by copying the family clan tartan and printing from an icing printer and then applying to fondant. Tartan is a very difficult design and I have been looking for ways to duplicate it for the future.

I'm not sure if this is the same. It almost seems like they use only one colour simple designs. I wonder if it would work on fondant?

Do you think the strips from Sweet Swiss are what www.cakework.com uses?

I've never seen anything like that before. How cool! I could see how you could use strips of chocolate (or even fondant) and lay them on top of another colour and then heat them and press down to create that effect. And although you could also create a plaid that has no specific pattern, it would be quite difficult to create a clan tartan which does have a specific pattern. I bet this would be worth giving a try though!!
