I've seen lots of questions here about putting gumpaste flowers in the fridge..People are concerned that the flowers would become soft. I've put gumpaste flowers in the fridge before, usually overnight and have never had them turn soft. I wanted to see if they would turn soft after a longer period of time in the fridge...Well, I put one of my flowers in the fridge and left it for a week and it was fine. It was as brittle as when I put it in fridge. I use Nicholas Lodge's gumpaste recipe..icon_lol.gif

Here's a picture of the flower that was sentenced to a week in the fridge...

Cool experiment! Did condensation from the fridge make visible dotted marks on the coloured areas as/after drying?

The flower looks the same as before I put it in the fridge...The flower was dusted with pearl dust so it has a shimmer to it. The color wasn't affected at all.

Okay, here's my experience with gumpaste and the fridge. I was putting gumpaste in the fridge before i ever knew that fondant and gumpaste wasn't supposed to go in there. Never had a problem. The recipe i use does get alittle soft in the humidity but they never dissolved.

UNTIL.... i did a cake for a 60th wedding anniversary at the nursing home, i had used gumpaste for the flowers, well they were fine for the party and the cake, but when i went in the next day, the staff had saved my flowers for me (gotta love em, they didn't know they were of sugar) and they totally melted. So to be honest with you i don't know if it were the refridgerator or if the staff had tried to wash the icing off the flowers as they thought they were to be saved.
