This is only the 2nd cake I have made - a teapot cake. Thanks for all of those ideas out there that I used. You guys are great. I used 2 Pampered Chef batter bowls and put one cake mix in each. Put both cakes on top of each other, top one upside down. Then I mounded some frosting on the top for the teapot top. The ball, handle and spout are made out of gum paste. My only problem was the spout - it looks like an old man's shrivled up penis!!!! What did I do wrong? Is there something else I can use? Any suggestions would be helpful. I need to perfect this cake by the end of August for a bridal tea shower. HELP!!!! sunflowerfreak
It dried for 2 days and I didn't put anything over it. SHould I have put something over it?
Okay first of all, how exactly do you know what an old man's shrivled up looks like! LOL Second, I had this same problem with a teapot cake (*note where I live!) I tried to make. I came up with another idea and it's been a hit in my town. I will post it in my pictures for you to see. Otherwise. how about trying MMF?
Maybe if you add the fixodent or tylose to the gumpaste? I make the spout and handle all the time and have never had an issue with what you are describing!!
I do make mine a lot smaller though, so that may be why they dry easier (??) I know it takes the fondant ones a LOT longer to dry than it did for the gumpaste ones I have made. (I have tried both to see which worked better - and the gumpaste worked best for me) Wish I was of more help for you. ![]()
I frosted the cake with just buttercream (Crisco, meringue powder, water, vanilla). Is that considered buttercream? I just don't know what to do about the spout.
I think maybe you made your spout too big. For my teapot cake I used MMF with a bit of gumtex mixed in and let it dry for several days. Do you have a real pottery teapot that you can use for a example to base your spout off of. That is what I did. I have attached a photo of a teapot like i used for my model. Good Luck! Don't give up!
