I want to make a Mini Cooper cake for my father-in-law's 50th birthday and really have no idea where to begin.
I plan on stacking several cakes and then carving out the car shape. I will then cover the cake with buttercream and then fondant. I am guessing I will then make fondant accents for the different parts such as lights and windshield etc. Would it look better to make the accent pieces, attach them to the cake, and then cover the entire car with fondant?
How do I make the car look like there is nothing under it but still support it? Any ideas on making the tires? Any size recommendations for the entire car?
Any ideas or tips would be appreciated. Thanks!

Here is an awesome tutorial done by boonenati! It shows how to make Lightening McQueen, but you can use it as a guildline for carving and making wheels. HTH some, Jen
