I Think When You Post A Picture Of A Cake
Decorating By sunflowerfreak Updated 10 May 2007 , 3:15am by Renaejrk
I think when you post a picture of a cake, you should put in what size pans you used, what decorating tips were used and maybe what kind of flowers, if any you made to go on the cake. Someone posted a picture today and she put in what sized pans, what kind of flowers and the tips she used on the cake. It was very helpful and I think it would be a good idea for each of us to do when we post a pic of a cake. Tell me what you think. Thanks.
At the risk of sounding rude, I'd rather PM someone for this information if I was interested. I prefer the little stories and descriptions.

Oh yes! I like that too! Sometimes I do put what I used on the cake but, all that detail seems a little too impersonal.
sometimes i do to be helpful - especially if its a neat little trick, but sometimes i think that a decorator wants to protect their secrets. so to each their own.
another thought i had is sometimes it is so difficult to upload pics that after the fifth or sixth time re typing the description- i know for myself anyway- i get tired and just type in as little as i need to and then by the time it loads, there are times that you cant go back and edit the information...so some of my pictures have NADA...for that very reason.
but you could PM one person if you want to know. You don't have to PM 30.

I just wanted to offer a tip to you and anyone else who gets tired of re typing out a post or description only for it to not go through and be lost.
After you type your message highlight it and right click to copy or hit control + c to copy and then if you lose it you can just click in the box and right click paste or control + v to paste your post or description and try again.
Hope that helps in the future.

There was a post a few days ago about people who copy a cake put up the picture and do not mention they got the idea or copied the cake from so and so. It was a manners issue that we should thank the person who inspired us. For which I trully agree.
I've had people pm me and ask specific details about stuff and I am very glad to share the info. They have gone on to make these awesome looking cakes with my basic idea of the design but their execution has been oh so much better.
I could also understand the people that have their own shop that want to have some cakes be their signature cakes and they would not want to share that info. So in those cases we would be on our own to figure out the how to's. Some of us invest at lot of time and (product) money into development and it's hard to let go.
I can appreciate both sides.
It's like in all jobs, the designs that we come up with are like "intellectual property" and if you leave a company you are not to bring that with you even if it's your baby because it is technically owed by the original company. Unless of course you have a contract that says different.
I really hope that makes sense.
To cut my story short for those of us that want to share the details we will, those that cannot wont. and then we can try and ask them for help or tips, but we should not give them a hard time if they are not willing to share.
Good Luck .
I just don't want to read "10 inch round, buttercream, MMF, Tip 1,2,3D" over and over again is all I'm saying. I won't NOT look at pictures because of it, or anything. ![]()

I agree! That's what I was thinking too.
I like putting details in my description, although I don't know anyone who'd want to copy one of mine!!! LOL I think it's just a personal preference. I like seeing descriptions so I can figure out scale, etc.
I was inspired by Melysa's cake she has in her avatar and did it a couple of weeks ago (didn't turn out like I wanted, though!) and appreciated the info on the size of the cakes - it helped it make sense when I was looking at it, and I knew it would be perfect for what I needed it for! - so thanks to those who feel comfortable sharing your details!
