Okay, I am attempting (drum roll, please!) a guitar cake for my pastor's 50th birthday this weekend. Here is a close-up picture of his bass guitar. What would be the best way to get this look? I want to use MM fondant, so would I marbalize the fondant? What's the best way?

By the way, you guys have been a HUGE help and inspiration to me! I'm glad I found this place!!!

I think marbleizing the fondant would be the perfect idea! Would love to see a photo of it when you are finished!

I am thinking marblizing then use the Bronze or pearl luster dust to enhance the shade differences.

I would say yes marbelize, but how to get such a large piece to look so cool. I made some yesterday but it was just for a ribbon. I wonder if you would have to marbelize many small pieces and then put them all one next to the other and them roll them out into a large piece to get the right effect?

Anyone out there??

Good luck with the guitar it's a grand Idea!

On the Ace of cakes when he was doing the wood effect he painted the fondant with liquid food color and then went back over it with a brush to get the wood grain look. Maybe you could try that and then luster dust it/

I agree with gateaux. I have done a cake with marble fondant, however it was a small round cake. To get the marble effect, I just added a small amount of coloring to the fondant and slowly kneeded it in. If you need the fondant too much, you will disperse the color throughout and the fondant will become a solid color. When I marblized my fondant, I did a lot of stretching the fondant. Then I rolled it out into one large circle. I believe that when I put the fondant on the cake, I placed the rolling pin side down. Does this make sense?

I hope this helps. If you need some clarification, please feel free to let me know!
