Grad requested yellow cake with chocolate icing for tomorrow. She wasn't concerned with anything else. School colors are blue and gold. My idea is to drape a sheet of fondant over a sheet cake at an angle to look like a diploma. Now I'm stuck. I thought about making gold and/or blue roses to somewhat fill in the corners, but am concerend about the gold and/or blue clashing with the chocolate color. I have already been through the gallery, but this color scheme is quite obviously not poplular on chocolate cakes. Does anyone have any other ideas? How about pics of the color scheme. I am not interested in doing a mortar board, though.

this cake is cool looking.........what about doing a large fbct on the top in white and just layer it over top of the chocolate........or do a big white diploma lined in gold and blue with a seal and the persons name written in caligraphy or something??? Or even making an all chocolate with chocolate dipped strawberries drizzled in blue and gold.......I'm not sure how the colors will look........I know that pastel yellow and blue look awesome with chocolate and you would never think to put them together!

here is a cake that is chocolate with blue on it........maybe if you go real dark with the chocolate it won't look too bad....this cake doesn't look bad with the blue next to the chocolate.......the gold would definitely brihghten it up too........might be pretty.

Thank you for responding. She definately wants real chocolate. I didn't think about doing lining on the dipoloma in blue and gold. Maybe if I go light gold with the roses, it will look ok.

this is where I got my idea from:

but instead of using the cap, I was going to move the diploma over and do roses in it's place.

I originally wanted to do this one:

but my family got the flu, and I didn't have time to make the stars and such with fondant and have them dry. I like it because the colors are not right on the cake. They kind of stand out on their own.

What are your or anyone else's thoughts on that? what about white roses, instead of yellow?

I kinda hafta do the "use what I have" deal. (sick little one, hubby working) No time to get anywhere to get chocolate, although that's a great idea. I think I'm stuck doing the diploma one, although a fabulous idea in and of itself; there are two gorgeous examples in the gallery. Would white roses look okay? How about if I do a few long-stem white roses laying next to the diploma, with the stems slightly overlapping the "paper"? Input??????..............
