Please help, most of the recipes on here are quoted as cups. I'm from the UK and found it hard to convert so I bought some "cups". My question is for the No fail Cookie recipes and it asks for 2 cups of butter, does this mean I fill the cups completely with butter?
Also whats Crisco and shortening?
Hi! Here's a site for converting US to UK measurements.
http://nemesis.lonestar.org/reference/measures/capacity_us.html
There are probably better ones out there, but I'm on my way to a birthday party.
For butter, we usually have measurements printed on the stick. But, yes, you can just smash the butter into the cup.
Crisco/shortening is vegetable fat, sometimes used in place of or in conjunction with butter.
Good luck!
Speaking to my SIL who is also from England, she says the UK equivilent (sp...soooo bad), is Suet???
Thats what I thought...I wonder if my SIL didnt understand me...?
Phew...
LOL...I was getting ready to call her up and tell her she was a looney!!! Glad it worked out for you!

Its a solid, comes in a can or in pre-measured sticks. If you cannot get it over there (UK?), I could always send you some from here...
Always here to help out a fellow cookie-ologist!!
Good luck leni, and welcome to CC. Are you addicted to it yet?????? LOL
I found this post on another website. Maybe this will help...
"Crisco - Yes, it is vegetable shortening. The closest thing I have found in the UK is called Trex and you can buy it in the butter section of your store. It works perfectly, exactly like Crisco.
Whenever a recipe calls for shortening or lard I always use Trex."
Also you can find conversion here on CC in the recipes section. At the top of the recipes homepage you will see several tabs, the last one says conversions, click on that and then you enter your measures and it converts for you.
