did you find that they were really mushy like someone chewed up the cake and spit it back out and dipped it in chocolate???? I made some ONE TIME and they were really mushy....I think two shots of liquid was too much.

Congratulations QueLinda! I made some for the first time too this week.

KHalstead: I had the same experience! Very mushy. The kids loved them. Next time, I plan to use bc as the binding agent to see if that resolves the problem.

KH your description is too funny! I made them and found them to be really "mushy" too. I had a friend that described them as the texture was like cookie dough. She did eat the though icon_smile.gif

When I made them, put in too much liquid, but had so much cake left over, just kept adding until I got a good consistency.......my boys (all over 1icon_cool.gif gobbled them up!

I used bc which seemed to work well, I didn't "dunk" them, I just spooned the chocolate over the top and let it run down, then put some white chocolate in a baggie cut a small hole in the corner and drizzled.

Took the cake balls to work, everyone loved them and asked why have I been holding out on them. I ate one and Oh Man! YUMMY, I could get really hooked on these.

I usually just take the "cake parts" as I call them, to work everyone loves them too.

Cake Balls are the leftovers from your cake mixed with your choice of filling.
I made some tonight with buttercream icing and it is really mushy but SO GOOD!!! Then I also made some with carmel filling - I just stuck them in the fridge and will cover them in chocolate tomorrow.
I do have a question, I have a hard time covering them in chocolate, how do you all do it so they look nice??

Thanks!

So if I did like a carved cake and had some chunks left over I would put them all in a bowl and throw in some icing and mix it all up into balls????

Yes, then dip them in chocolate. You can do different fillings, add nuts, whatever you want!! icon_biggrin.gif

I made them for the first time last week. I made some with fr. vanilla coffee creamer and some with ameretto. Neither had a very distinctive flavor. I added more ammeretto-hoping for more flavor and got mush!! I like the idea I read to add some flavoring (oils) to the coating, I think that would pump the flavor. I was expecting more, I guess. If the right amount of liquid is added and they are dipped in candy melts, can they be at room temp?? Thanks!! icon_smile.gif

Tysmom - I put mine in the freezer (they were mushy - or as I prefer to say ' creamy) and that helped with the chocolate coating, but mine were definately not the most attractive. I was thinking about thinning the chocolate with a little crisco, but do like the taste with straight chocolate. Live the idea of adding carmel (mmmm)

Coffeecake, Good idea! I will put them in the freezer tomorrow before I dip them in chocolate and let you know how that turns out. They usually fall off the spoon or toothpick or whatever I use to dip - into the chocolate, so mine are not very pretty, but they are good... icon_lol.gif
