A friend from high school called me today and her cousin is going to Australia as a student ambassador (sp.) or something and will be gone for a while. His family is wanting to throw him an early birthday (as he will not be here for his birthday)/ going away party and want an Australian theme. Got any ideas anyone??? ![]()
when I think of Australia I think of kangaroos, koalas and the great barrier reef. How big of a cake? I'm thinking three layers...the bottom can be the reef layer, middle layer outback with animals, and top layer ayers rock. Sounds like fun!
What if you made a two tier cake with the top decorated to indicate something distinctive to your area (like foresty or a landmark - I'm not sure where you are at but for me it would be the Alamo for example) then some kind of border to insinuate water or waves and the bottom tier done with the top half blue like water and the bottom half, like sandy and with a kangaroo or koala and saying "welcome to the land down under" . Then maybe you could have the "route" marked out like stitching going around the cakes going from the top tier to the bottom tier ( to show his travel from home to Australia).
