I tried it once w/o success. I have used the piping gel transfer method. You just use your computer to print out what you want on your cookie (the size & font you desire) backwards, lay parchment on top of it and copy it using piping gel. Then lay paper on your cookie to transfer the writing. Voila-you have a pattern to go by. Hope this makes sense. I read this somewhere, but can't find it now or I'd post it.

Okay, I don't have piping gel, but I like the idea. Is there something else I could use that would do the same thing??

I've used the pin prick method on MMF. It definitely does the job, but it is time consuming. I haven't tried rolled buttercream yet, but it's on my to do list! Good luck with the cookies!

I'm sorry, but I have never heard of this before. Please explain what the pin-prick method is to me?
