Does anyone have any ideas for a dinosaur groom's cake? The bride's mother is not too happy with the idea and is worried about it looking juvenile. I suggested a sheet cake with a large depressed dinosaur footprint...I don't think she liked that idea either. I'm open to your ideas.

well, my first thought already shot down: footprint.

ok...so then

1) a "build it yourself dinosaur kit" big collection of bones, an incomprhensible manual that prominately features how it "should" look and one very befuddled palentaolgist trying to make all the parts fit and of course it looks totally wrong. bones, person, manual --> fondant or gumpaste. Sheet cake base for it all to rest upon.

2) Dinosaur bone hunter digging in the sands to uncover a t-rex head / hip bone, or maybe even a part of a skeleton. Fondant/Gumpaste for bones, person. Sculpted layer cake to give idea of small hill w/ bones stiking out.

3) "Operation" -- dino version....like regular operation game only it's a dino outline and you have to get the bones out...etc.

4) Palentologist being tapped on sholder while he inspects bone. T-Rex doing tapping demanding his bones back!?!?

5) peaceful diorama of brontosaurus munching in a tropical paradise..hip deep in "water"

(more later if I think of any)

of course what would really be fun, but totally inapporpriate for a wedding would be the scene from Jurassic Park where the T-Rex eats the laywer hiding in the bathroom!

Do you know the reason for wanting the dino themed cake? This could help with design ideas. Like is it his profession, nickname, team logo, etc...

ooohh....just thought of more driving to Sr. Awards Night at school

ok...how about a dog.

1) he's digging up or burying a really large dinosaur bone.

2) he's sitting looking at dino skeleton, obviously drooling

3) he' dreaming thoughts of dino skeletons

both 2 & 3 could be captioned "Dog Heaven!"

mac: which one?
---------------------------------
ok...and now off to really silly land w/ apologies to "Bill"

one dionsaur (in black skin of course and looking very "moody") holding the skull of another dinosaur.

caption:

"Alas, poor Yorick, I knew him well."

(and if in for bit of nasty humor add: "See, that's what getting married does to you!")

----------------------

and one more thought on dino assembly kit:

::singing::

caption: "the toe bone's connected to the foot bone,
the foot bones connected to the ankle bone,"
etc.

oh i just had a thought!!!!! what about a giant dino egg?? you can do any shape for the base then take the egg pan and make an egg out of chocolate paint it with luster dust or air brush it to look like a dino egg or what ever a dino egg is suposed to look like perhaps it can be hatching with a dino leg or arm sticking out. the egg can be sitting in a nest made of either chocolate shavings or cocnut depending on the flavor of the cake.

I really like the dino operation and dino egg ideas! I think whatever you do...I think I would maybe do the dino skeleton. It might seem less kid like. Maybe you could dress it up by putting some chocolate covered strawberries or fruit around the cake board.

I ended up using fruit around my armadillo groom's cake because I felt like it just did not look like a groom's cake! icon_smile.gif

Doug...you are very creative and very funny too! icon_biggrin.gif
