Do I really NEED another KitchenAid? Don't get me wrong, I would LOVE one! My hubby just told me that he was going to get me another one for Mother's Day but wanted to ask me if I really wanted or needed another one.

Help me decide! I'd hate to spend the money if I don't really need it. I don't have an official "business", but I do alot of baking. I get some orders but I'm not swamped. I know I'll eventually need another one, right now I have the Artisan. I would really like one that has more power and bigger. It would be nice to make bigger batches so I don't have to do so many.

So, I'm thinking if I don't get another, I'll definately get another bowl. I always wish I had more bowls.

What do you all think? If I decide to get one, which do you recommend?

Thanks guys!!!

I have two stand mixers and each one has an extra bowl. but if you're not sure, whether you absolutely need another mixer, ask your husband to first get you another bowl or two and extra beaters. that way, you don;t have to wash up immediately after each batch. Use the left over money to get other toys you're interested in, then when business picks up, you can still opt for another mixer

I also have two Kitchenaids, and a total of 4 bowls. I usually just use one, but in case it quits on me in the middle of a very busy cake weekend, it's nice having the peace of mind that I have another one right here. The extra bowls are wonderful ... I got two of them on eBay for pretty cheap, and I can't imagine not having them. If you don't want/need to splurge on an extra mixer, I'd definitely recommend extra bowls. thumbs_up.gif

I keep an extra one in a box as a backup .... and good thing because mine quit in the middle of a batch of cookies one day! But I agree with the above post .... get an extra bowl or two, and an extra beater or two. You'll be amazed what a time saver that is.

I have a KA 4.5 and a pro 600 and there are times I use both at the same time. I'm going to be getting extra bowls soon for both mixers.

I have a Artisan and a pro and use them BOTH all the time, the Artisan when I just want a small batch of mmf or icing or just 1 cake mix, the pro when I mix 3 cake mixes or a double or even triple batch of BC. I love having 2!!

Thanks guys! I really want the pro 600 but I don't think my husband realized how much they are. icon_lol.gif I told him I eventually will get that! For now I think I'll probably get more bowls and attachments and maybe a couple of other little things...

Thanks!

I have an old KA Heavy Duty 325 watt, Dimension 2000 and a Bosch Universal. I started with KA in 1996? As our family grew I purchased the Dimension 2000. Then purchased the Bosch. I told my dd that I would hand down my KA to her when she got married. Now that we are doing cakes there have been times when we are using both the Bosch and the KA at the same time.

I too have a KA 4.5 and a pro 600. The 4.5 is in the basement as a backup because I couldn't bear to part with it. I also like knowing it's there in case of emergencies. What the other posters said about extra bowls is so true. I love having two bowls for my mixers while I'm working on a project.

I admit it I have 2 Kitchen Aids... I bought the bottom of the line KA more than 20 years ago... it still works great I did have to replace the brushes once $25 repair ( my fault) and I needed a new paddle the lold one got a chip in the coating

When I found a great deal on the big one I had to have it.. I planned on giving the old one to my ds but I could not part with it... I do use both when making cakes... though a second bowl would do the same thing and take up less space...

my oldest ds got my grandmothers KA so ds#2 was supposed to get this one oh well too bad....

I would kill for a colored one but cant justify it when I have 2 already. LOL

I got a 4 1/2 qt as a wedding gift years ago and love it. I was at a caterer's going out of business sale and got a 6 qt with 2 bowls and extras beaters and paddles super cheap. Now I can't remember how i did it with just one mixer. I will say that having the extra bowl makes a BIG difference!

I have the ultra power and a 600... usually on busy cake weeks they are both going... one for icing and one for batter. I don't know how I ever did without the 2nd one before... definitely a blessing!

I have a 6 qt kitchenaid and then found a great deal on a refurb 5 qt kitchenaid so I have two. Plus found a cheap spare 6 qt bowl so that helps too. My next project is to replace my 5 qt burnished beater with a coated one and get a spare coated one for the 6 qt. They are expensive though for just a beater.

I have 2 6qt. KA mixers. One is a pro, the other an epicurian. I love them both but I find I have more success making IMBC in the pro...I have no idea why. The bowls are the same size!!!!

I have a 5 qt. KA accolade (or is it artisan?) and a 4.5 qt. sunbeam mixmaster, which i love. i like how the bowl can be slid to the side and it spins. it just makes it easy for me to scrape while it mixes. the only two downfalls to this mixer is that there is no paddle attachment capability, and it only comes in 4.5 qt. but i still use it more than my KA. I got that mainly for the paddle attachment and to have an extra larger mixer on hand. or if i need to use two mixers at once. I still think i may get a second sunbeam when i open my shop (if i can ever find a good location - ggrrrrrr).

I have a KitchenAid and a Kenwood, I really use the Kenwood the most, I think it is a better mixer. More power. I think having 2 KitchenAid bowls might be a better way to go, one for icing, and one for batter. Or one for egg whites or meringues maybe.

I just don't know what to do!!!! icon_cry.gif I know I really want the KA pro 600 but I just don't think I'm that busy yet. With 3 little kids, I don't take that much business. I know eventually I'll need it. But then again it would be nice to make a big cake at one time instead of batches.

But I think you're right Shirley, I'll probably end up getting the extra bowls and extra beaters.

But I really want that big one...
