Hi All--Know some has said Americia or Wilton colors to color red--using lots! But I think I read on CC about red jello--helping to color red. Has anuone tried this and does this cut down on so much red coloring? Change the taste?? Thanks for any info on this--has an Elmo to color!

Using kool-aid will add taste to your icing. I haven't read about using jello, just kool-aid. For some adding flavor is ok, for others not so much. Personally I have never had to add what I would consider "lots" of red when using Americolor Super Red. You don't even have to start with pink icing first. In fact, it's better if you don't! icon_smile.gif

Thank you so much for idea!!! I don't have stores here that sale products I need and too late to order Americolor by mail! A little concerned about the red (and the disaster stories)! Oh---you have such lovely cakes! Maybe one day I will be able to decorate such as you! Thanks for the enjoyment of looking! Thanks for info!

I usually start with orange first, then switch to red.

Jello or Koolaid will add flavor, but if it is a kid's cake maybe that is not a bad thing to have cherry frosting? I keep meaning to try this and never actually do it.

I tried Americolor red this weekend for the first time and I was so impressed. I didn't have to add lots and my white icing turned red quickly. I know that doesn't answer your question but it may help you next time icon_smile.gif

I had never heard of using koolaid. Does it give you a really good red? I could have used this on my Dale Jr. cake. It looked more pink than it did red and I used almost half a jar of wilton red paste. Do you just add the powder to the frosting and mix?

nickir0108-try to get your hands on some Americolor. The days of half a jar to get red will be long gone!

Thank you so much for the nice compliment gismo! That's really sweet!

I'm thinking you have to use the kool-aid in addition to the coloring but I could be wrong. I can't remember what I read before. I think alaskamom was one of the first to write about it. Try a search using kool and aid with alaskamom as the author. icon_biggrin.gif

Thanks Dodibug, I'll try to get that Americolor. Seems most on here agree that it's the best. I still want to try the koolaid though. I couldn't find the thread by alaskamom, but I'll keep looking. Thanks again, you guys rock!

Thank You! Thank You! Thank You! As I said--haven't got time to order the Americolor now--but will get it--and gonna try the kool aid and red color from Wilton--that I have on hand. Will post pic after this week end. I am also addicted to this site and it has really helped me with this Elmo cake(only gs first b/d cake!) Have learned so much from all! Just hope that one day---I can do as great of a job as all you do! Thanks again!

All this information will help me a lot too !!! Thanks everybody. I'm doing a spiderman head and was having trouble with the red too. I'll try the coolaid after red color.

Did anyone tried adding blue oo black ? I'm worried that it will ruin the icing !

Good day !
