I know you can make "jewels" with melted gumdrops if you have molds. Is this what you were thinking of?

word of warning about the jewel of the nile place. Several people ordered from them and received different colors than what they ordered and they said the jewels weren't quite as faceted as they made them out to seem. I have never ordered from them myself mind you. Just passing along what I read here on cc!

Seems like in a pinch you could make them out of fondant and then coat them in disco or mystical dust in different colors...?

Well if you have the silicone mold for them I would try melting jolly ranchers in my oven. That way you dont have to worry about trying to pour molten sugar into itty bitty molds. Jolly ranchers come in all the cool colors already. I know when I leave them in my hot car they become really pliable.
That was my idea for when I make the crown cake for my DH work.

I just made some lst night...Found the mold at Hobby Lobby. It looked like a sheet of faceted jewels.

Melted Jolly Ranchers in microwave for 30 seconds (took a couple of rounds) then quickly poured into the lightly spray oiled mold. Then with a spackle knife, smoothed the candy and this also cleaned the excess between the jewels. Let cool and then popped them out...perfect!

I used these on my blue jean cake but you really can't see them in the pic.

If you want to buy them (larger, not rhinestone sized) the best place to get them is at: www.jeff-the-chef.com. Our very own CC member, kincaellan, makes the most beautiful sugar creations! I recently purchased/ordered a bag of sugar jewels from him and they were great. The only thing is I'd say the smaller ones (there are two sizes in the bag) are probably the size of a thumbprint. They are not tiny like rhinestones. But for price and quality I don't think you can beat them.

Also, there were at least two or three threads in which jewelsofdenial.com were mentioned and people who had purchased her product found them to be lacking. Apparantly she's a member also (don't remember her user name) and read one of the posts and apologized for any problem with the product and I believe she even gave the complainant a refund, but I've never dealt with her myself. Only remember reading more than once not to purchase from her due to the inferiority of her jewels.

HTH

When I took a class with Nicholas Lodge last summer, he talked about using the First Impression molds and Jolly Rancher candy. He said that he crushed the candy and mounded the pieces up inside the jewel molds and put the mold into the oven at 250 F for about 20 minutes. The candy melted into the mold and formed perfect jewels without having to melt and pour the candy into the molds.

Not sure if someone already posted this, but I had this link in my Favorites:

http://www.jeff-the-chef.com/store/products.html

It takes you straight to the products, a few scrolls down you will see the candy jewels.

That's odd! I have been speaking with them back and forth for 3 weeks concerning their products and have placed an order for some of the jewels.
I also bought a mold to melt candies that is faceted so I'll let you know how they both turn out!
