After seeing Khalstad's marvelous guitar I decided to try and make one for my rocker son. Wellllllllll, I've made so many cakes in the last few weeks that he is caked out and wants cheesecake. Can cheesecake be covered with fondant? I am pretty sure I can make the cheesecake and sculpt it, but wonder about the rest. Anyone done anything like this? I suppose I could airbrush the color on, it should stick to the cheesecake shouldn't it????? Any suggestion other than get another son.
I don't have any advice on this--never done it, but WOW thats funny!! I didn't think anyone could get caked out!! LMAO
Well until recently we only had cake for birthdays, which amounted to only about 9 maybe 10 cakes a year. This year I've made at least double that (it's only May) and i've made 4 in the last 2 weeks. Only 3 of those were outside the family and we didn't get any. Then of course there are the cake balls from the scraps and mistake cakes.
My honey came up with a solution, I'm going to make a dummy cake in the shape of a guitar, cover in fondant and try all the new techniques I wanted to and then just make him a big ol' cheescake. This way when the guitar (if it comes out) dries he can just hang it on his wall like a piece of art. We both win!!!

What a great Idea !

I understand the caked out son. Both of my son's are caked out. But after 20+ years of their lives I guess they could be.
Though the youngest is getting one for his wedding
Bride wants it. So I still get to do a cake for him. Actually he is getting a RCT in the shape of a pool table.
