so, was at the brand new Sam's Club that just opened where I lived.

Of course had to wander by the cake dept.

ARGH!!!!!!!!!!

they're going more "up-scale"

small two pound (about 4 inch layers stacked 2 high) covered in choice of White Chocolate or Dark Chocolate Ganache!!!!! For $7!

and super 3 layer tall round fancy strawberry cakes, coconut cakes and carrot cakes (not the usual sheet). $11

figures.....

Good luck explaining why your customers don't get that rate. I just don't go by the bakery dept of those places anymore...

remember they get their cakes in frozen (so i was told by a former employee there)

we are not in competition with them..we have our own customer base.

They also have gumpaste sprays on their cakes at my local Sam's Club. I tell my customers all the time, "I *could* make your gumpaste flowers, but it's cheaper for you if I buy them." and then I purchase them froma company that has them made in Indonesia.

I feel your pain. Our local chain grocery store, Genaurdis, is now offering wedding cakes and has a dummy set up where people can poke at it (and they have, believe me). It looks pretty enough, but bleh -- frozen cake and Crisco icing for a wedding cake does not do it for me!

Sam's club is owned by Wal-Marts.

I don't shop at either one, they are putting all the small Mom & Pop business out of business in our area.

I don't care if I save a couple of dollars I am not going to be part of their multiply.
