I feel so bad, I made a cake for my best friends Mom for her B-day on Sunday. I made a 1/2 sugar marble cake with sugar free cream cheese icing and a mixed berry cream filling. The cake took me 3 days to make between the flowers and cake experiments, and about 4 hours to frost b/c the icing was a pain. I just got an e-mail from her that said she can't wait to taste the coffee cream filling in the cake.. icon_eek.gif ....I looked at her order, and sure enough, she wanted coffee. I don't know what I was thinking. I guess cuz I have made 2 other cakes for her and she always wanted berry fillings......I did tell her what I did and I told her I would make it up to her on her birthday in 2 weeks......I just feel like a jerk for not looking at her order the whole time I was making the cake.

It's so easy to make a mistake, you have an idea for something else, or whatever. You loose it or you mix it up. We are all human and we make mistakes. It's a cake and we can usually fix it. Or at least do a make up!

I made my order form just for me, because I am not legal and just do it for friends, but when I talk to them I just take it, it's got my pan sizes and what flavors I can make and everything. The first thing on the top is the date it's for, then the delivery date if different. Then is it a pick up or delivery. They phone # and their name.
If there is a message. If they know what they want or if they have just an idea. Colors and Flavors I get their e-mail of course, but with all that, I am armed and ready for caking.
Once I finalize my design, I e-mail it to them and ask them to confirm everything we talked about. It's a long e-mail but then I am sure that is what they want. ( in a previous life I managed a team of people that ordered IT equipment and because we had to have everything written down to the last items it's always been easier for me to confirm everything like that, Then if they come back to you and say I wanted this or that, well this is what you confirmed with me. Did I miss something.)

But you know what I still make mistakes. Loose the order or my son's take it. I could not find one a few months ago. I found it on the fridge last week with a drawing on the back. Glad I had the e-mail.

Just keep working at it, with each order you get better at working out your business savyness!

Good Luck.

I know this wasn't for an order but for my own family but last week when I was doing my son's 2nd birthday cake, I accidently put a 3 on it icon_rolleyes.gif

It was painted on fondant so I couldn't scrape it off. It was the bus cake in my photos. Anyway, I was going to put the bus number as 2 but wrote 3. I ended up just covering it up by making a black square over it and then making it say "Ben dist #2" I almost said #3 again though! lol but had to stop myself.

I don't know what was with me trying to make him 3! I guess I'm just afraid of the "terrible 2's" icon_razz.gif

Awww, it's okay though. Like someone else already said, we ALL have days like that. I'm sure she'll understand. The cake sounds SO yummy! icon_smile.gif

lol, LaSombra! I did the SAME exact thing for my sister's bday last year. I wrote a 3 instead of a 2 on the cake. Luckily it was just buttercream so I could scrape it off.

Well she picked it up and was amazed by how good it looks, so hopefully they like the taste, it's a 1/2 sugar cake, made with sugar free icing which was surprisingly yummy (not that I ever stick my finger in the icing bowl icon_rolleyes.gif ), but was a pain to put on.....I can't wait to hear how they liked it.....or if they didn't...... icon_cry.gif
