So, I am liking the new format of CC and I was wondering for you professional talented and experienced types (you know who you are) - those of you who post amazing cakes - how does it feel when you see that you are on the front page under most popular? My goal is to have at least one cake pop up there one day! You all are teaching me so much and I love to look at the popular cakes and dream of what I can do! Thanks for being so inspiring!

Well....if I ever make it to the most popular cakes page I would be quite thrilled. It's a tremendous compliment.

One of mine was on the "Popular Cake Photos - Added Today" section for like 3 seconds. I know it isn't the all time popular list, but I was tickled! icon_smile.gif I almost went and woke up my DH, but when I reloaded it was gone. Ah, well, I had my moment (literally) of glory. icon_smile.gif

It's neat to get compliments on old cakes that you thought were long forgotten, lol. icon_biggrin.gif

Divaricks, your cake that I like best has to be the half-and-half baby shower and birthday one!

Sugarflowers is my hero, so there's simply no chosing which of hers I like best!

I had a friend IM me and tell me one of my cakes was on the Popular area. I was so happy I had to have all my family come look. icon_rolleyes.gif I've had my ballerina and my Father Christmas show up on there. It was fun! Now on to other things... So many cakes, so little powdered sugar to make them with...

Looking at the pictures on here, everyone is so amazing. Sometimes I sit and look and look and look... I love the new format for the galleries and front page, and I think I get to see more cake pix now than I ever did before!

I'm in the "I'll let you know when it happens!" column!

But you don't have to be on here a long time to post a really great looking cake. I have more than one saved in my favorites that was posted by a "newbie" and I liked the unique idea, or a particular design element. So we are looking forward to seeing lots and lots of photos from you! thumbs_up.gif

I saw my pink stripes with gerbera daisies cake in the Most Popular cakes section yesterday, and I was SO EXCITED!!!!! I never considered my cakes on the same level as all of the others ones I've seen in that category, so I felt very honored to be there. icon_redface.gificon_biggrin.gif

amberhoney-I put your Homer cake in my favorites just a little while ago. It's fabulous!

It's strange seeing some of my cakes come up from time to time. I am so genuinely flattered that people like them. I get discouraged a lot and start to compare myself to the best of the best, which is ridiculous since I'm doing this as a hobby and do an average of about 1 cake a month. Reaching cake perfection takes lots and lots of practice.

This site is so useful and inspiring. I am a better decorator because of it without a doubt. The constant access to new ideas is wonderful. I think the whole art of cake decorating is being improved and infused with new creativity because of the internet.

I know some people are unaware of this, so it bears repeating:

If you want to see more newly downloaded cake pictures (other than what shows up on the home page), go to Galleries and click Last uploads.

That will take you to a page the shows all the newly uploaded cakes in order without you having to visit each individual cake gallery.

FYI, I have quite a few beginner cakes that I've saved in my favorites, even some Wilton class cakes by people who are just getting started. I love finding inspiration from both new and experienced decorators.

CakesbyJess your cakes ARE amazing!! Beautiful work...I love everybodies cakes..so many different ideas it makes my head spin lol. I strive to get better. I really don't think mine will ever be up to the level as everybody elses but I do strive to do each cake better than the last. I still have a lot to learn, but that is the fun of it. Even when frustrated I laugh and think this is ALL I ever want to do. ONE day I will have my 2 seconds of glory icon_biggrin.gif LOL (maybe LOL)

NO thank you....I started humbly about 7 1/2 years ago with my daughter's 2nd bday cake. Just started learning a bit at a time. Talk about some not so good cakes back in the day....whew! I look back now and chuckle. The last year and a half has been the real fun for me though. I gained some real confidence, got down a few techniques, and started surprising myself. And for now I still do. Hope it always stays that way!

divaricks... your fantasy cake is great! You will be in that all time favorites list very soon I predict.

I'd be so happy just to make it to Today's favs list just once, but not in the cards. However, I am doing something I really enjoy, frustrations and all, and learning new things with every single thing I make. So what could be bad about that, huh?

Keep up your great work!

They all e-mailed back.....Where? LOL But it made my day to have 2 sec! My brother DID see it though! So at least one person didn't know that I was hallucinating! LOL

I definitely don't have any in that category yet, but I'm SO happy that feature was added. I have put SO many new cakes into my favorites since the format was changed!! I THINK I have commented on all those I have put in favorites as well. The new gallery makes it SO easy to post a comment in seconds! It's terrific! I had almost stopped commenting on photos most of the time because it was so slow. NOW, it's lightning fast!

I was surprised to see a couple of mine on there, and I was genuinly flattered and excited.

But those of you who havent seen one of yours doenst mean it hasnt been there unless you have been watching 24 hours a day. I dont know how the feature works exactly but I am sure many excellent cakes dont pop up there either. Plus I think people tend to add photos to their favorites that appeal to the masses. meaning an unusual or specific type of cake though excellent, may not be added to favorites because they dont plan to recreate it.

But I dont know about you guys, I have added so many new photos to my favorites because of this feature. I really love it, but my folder is getting really full!

When one of my cakes comes out in the home page, I feel like cake superstar!, I call my kids, they stare at the monitor going WOW mommy...You are cake superstar.
Now I open CC hoping to be at the gallery, It makes CC even more exiting, My favorites went from 32 to 89 since the new gallery is on. I also like to bet which new uploads will make it to the most popular uploads. There is so many talent here, so much to learn!, Thank god we cant taste each-other cakes thru the computer, I'll be coming here all day for another piece of cake

I have to agree that the best part of the Most Popular Cakes section is seeing so many cakes that I have never seen before on Cake Central, so it's been fun.

I got to see one of my cakes for a few seconds, so it was really cool. I don't really compare to any of the great decorators on this site, so it was really amazing to see a cake of mine up there with those gorgeous creations.

I think we are all our own worst critic. I know I am. Just last night I was trying to get a decorator friend to post some of her pics on here and she kept saying my cakes aren't good enough to go on there. But they are! I absolutely love the inspiration I get on this site. All of you are so nice and so quick to help everyone out! And the little warning on the home page is sooooooo true. It is highly addictive! I too will be thrilled if one of my cakes ever gets to the most popular spot! I'm not holding my breath though!

There are so many reasons a cake becomes "popular"... creative cake that inspires people, or stunning, but simple so that more people might check it to try it, or people just love everything a particular cake artist does, so they bookmark most everything and, the more people talk/post, the more people will think to check out their photos, so the more likely to get more "favorites" checked.

There are PLENTY of EXCELLENT cakes that are not favorites - maybe the artist doesn't post much and his/her cakes go by mostly unnoticed, maybe they are very well executed, but they are a copy of things done over and over, so not novel/creative, and so on.

I know I'll never be a strong 'favorite' and that's fine. I'm not here for that. I'm doing the best "I" can do - I'm not an artist, my creativity is there, but not extraordinary, I don't dapple in super time consuming cakes, and I'm not "established" as a "watch that cake decorator" - (no posse!) LOL

So, don't be sad if you don't become a favorite, it's not the measure of being successful.

One of my favorite "favorites" was posted by a newbie who has zero threads posted and only about 10 cake pics. It's not "the best" quality but I LOVE THIS CAKE! The idea is so unique and so cool looking! I'm actually planning on making it for my son in law's birthday in December. You dont' have to be "the best" or been doing this for years and years to have a cake that can inspire the rest of us! Keep working on her!

Having been on here less than a year, there have to be thousands of cakes that I've never been exposed to. This new feature is a great way to share some of the "oldies but goodies" that came and went before I even got on here.
