I would like to know if we can use Betty Crocker icing instead of buttercream to cover a cake that will be covered with MMF?

Thanks,

Yes! I would very like to know if it's possible because my husband loves this icing (vanilla or chocolate) and doesn't like buttercream.

It would be great if I could make a pretty cake with mmf, but with his favorite icing for his birthday...

I used store bought frosting (I can't remember which brand) for the baby cakes in my photo section. It worked just fine for the cupcakes and the 6-inch round.

I usually use canned frosting with fondant and it works beautifully!

I know that I have used canned icing, and added powered sugar to it to make it a little thicker, for star tipping, so I can imagine that you shoudl be able to do the same thing for fondant. I am going to try tomorrow icon_smile.gif

You could, if you actually like that stuff.

Are you making the "buttercream" out of confectioner's sugar and shortening? He might like the meringue based buttercreams better.

This one is positively ethereal -- from the Magnolia Bakery --

2 egg whites
1/2 c maple syrup
3/4 c sugar
1/4 tsp each cream of tarter and salt
1 tsp vanilla
1/4 tsp maple extract

Combine 1st 5 ingredients in double boiler and whip on medium high for 5-7 minutes till nice peaks form. Remove from heat and add vanilla and maple and beat 1 minute more.
