Doll Cake: Just Not Getting It Right

Wondering how long it takes anyone who bakes these how long they have to bake it???? I have tried this dang doll cake 3 times now. Even when checking it , all signs point to be done baking (toothpick & spring test). It NEVER fail when I go to tort the cake it is RAW in the middle! AARRGGG Next I'll be burning it from keeping it in there for 3 days! Any suggestions? TIA :
Are you using the heating rod in the middle?
Maybe someone else has some ideas for you.
yeah the rod is being used. Even when I pull it out it's clean which would make me "think" it's done.
Wow, I'm puzzled!! Is your oven working right? Maybe it's not holding the right temperature?
Try using a lollipop stick to test it. It will reach the "raw" part, if any. At 325 mine usually take an hour + and the top gets really brown.
I only use the Wilton cake tester stick it gets in any angle you place it in the cake and when it seems to still be a little raw I lower the temp and let it cook a little longer it may make a little thicker outer crust ( outside of the cake) but the frosting softens it up a bit. But yeah I hope you were able to check your oven especially if you have an electric oven because those nobs ( oven knob- mine has before anyway) Tends to turn round and round as if it was stripped of its location notch. And it won't let you put it on the right temp. Did I confuse you? Sorry.
When I check a cake that is thicker in the middle I use those long bamboo skewers, (they look like a very skinny very long toothpick) they get all the way through and to the bottom. Then you can cover the cake with some tin foil so the outside doesn't get to hard on you and finish baking the cake. Good luck.
She turned out really pretty Lisa! Now Ineed details!! I have to make a bride for my s-i-l's shower this coming weekend!! How did you get the bodice and skirt to meet so perfectly? did you put the bodice on the doll and then put it in the cake?
Thanks!
I put the bodice on after doll was placed on cake for that reason exactly. I cut cut a rectangle and wrapped it around. Because of her waist and bust line it just fit with a V shape in the back.
Thanks!! I hope mine looks half as good! Wish me luck!

Congrats!!!! On your 1000th Post. Too funny! I feel like I should be there. We're All obsessed!
I thought I had added this before, but it didn't show up..
When making doll cakes, they are not done until they pull from the sides, and even then, I let them bake an extra 5 minutes. An hour to 90 minutes is average for these. HTH!
Cute cake and i'm glad i got all these tips because i bought the wonder mold yesterday and cant wait to try it. I have 2 boys and i dont know anyone who has a girl. I guess i'll just have to make it anyway because i really want to try it.
