Need An Idea How To Make Center Of This Flower?

I'm going to try to use the petunia royal icing instructions to make a hibiscus flower.'
How should I make this center stamen thing so it's edible? Do you think there is a way to make royal icing stand up straight?
Also, I need to make these tonight for a cake due tomorrow morning so there is not a lot of time to dry things.
I'm attaching a photo of a real hibiscus so you can see what I mean.
Thanks.
I would try to make a little rope of fondant and encourage it to dry, I don't know how it would work to sit it in front of a fan or put it in a low low low oven for a minute, and roll the end in corn meal for the pollen. It wouldn't look quite the same, but....
You could do it with royal icing but it would have to be a very thick consistency to hold the circular shape. I've dried royal quickly by placing a heat lamp above the item - but drying by tomorrow morning
not sure even with the heat lamp. I would use a circular tip - maybe a #10 (depends on the diameter you need) and just pipe it onto a piece of parchment paper or waxed paper. If the consistency is thick enough it'll hold most of the round shape as you piped it. for the pollen - you could also use colored sugar -sprinkle some onto the icing while it's still wet so it'll stick to it. Hope this helps a little. Good luck. ![]()
Oh, I love the colored sugar idea!
I know fondant would be easiest, but I have to make these flowers in 4 different colors so making both royal icing and fondant in 4 colors (to match, yet) seems like too much work for flower stamens.
I'll give the royal a try.
I vote for royal icing and letting it fully harden to make the stamen. To make the little bits of polen, a dab of RI with a 1 tip to make them tiny, and some yellow sugar. Amazing what a little sparkle does for a flower! I used some crushed edible glitter on my dafodils and they turned out so well!
Pipe a RI #3 stamen onto waxed paper, let it dry hard then glue it onto the flower with gum glue. Add the rest from there.
Hibiscus are on my list of things to do as well.........they are so gorgeous!
Post pics when you are finished and let us know how you decided to make the stamen. ![]()
What about a gumpaste/fondant mixture? I believe you can put it in the oven with the light on to facilitate quick drying (I read that on here somewhere but haven't tried it myself......yet).
