Hi everyone, I've been asked to do a wedding cake and she wants Moth Orchids on it. I've borrowed the cutters from a friend, but I've no instructions and never made one before, have done other flowers and a cymbidium orchid but not this one. I have a blown up pic of a moth orchid and think I could do it ok, but wondered if any of you ladies or gents have instructions which I would find much easier to follow!

Any help appreciated. thumbs_up.gif

cheers
Jan

I'll give you a bump but I'm just in awe that it's even possible to make such stunning, realistic flowers.

You have the cutters , which is the most important thing. If you can make cymbidiums, you'll probably succeed with the moth or phaelenopsis orchid.
I wish I could learn how to as well because they are my favorite orchids.
This serves as a bump!

Well, I found this on YouTube. It's only a preview for a DVD that you can buy, but it might help you a little. Sure makes me want to buy the DVD, those orchids are GORGEOUS!

*gasp* I just looked up the price of that DVD at Global Sugar Art! I guess I won't be getting it anytime soon!

Make sure you post your pics!

I think Scott Woolley is so overpriced on his DVDs.

I love Mr. Wooley's work. I am going to work on trying to get his videos. Yes, they are overpriced but where can you get such videos. My dad always said," that you get what you pay for"..

PS: I think the website videos are cheaper than at globalart. You also get the cutters if you buy the videos on cakesbydesign.cc website.

There are two sugar flower DVDs available for rent at Netflix. This one, "Sugar Flower Art: Vol. 2: Advanced Techniques", has moth orchids, which I have never even heard of before I watched this DVD.

Don't count on me making a DVD icon_biggrin.gif I do wish Nicholas Lodge would come out with one on just orchids and another on just roses. When I say Scott Woolley is overpriced I guess I am comparing his to Nic's and I don't see one being so much better that it is worth the extra cost.

Hi: I just purchased everything Shirley had mentioned for the gum paste kit. I made the easy rose and it was such fun. I just wish that Nicholas would put on his information on dvds. Wooley has everything on dvd and it's just awsome. I want to learn everything I can about making flowers and can't afford to go and take classes. Wooley's videos is like having a classroom right at your feet and his work is to die for.....

Their both just awsome....Vicki0052

PS: I got everything on the list from Nicholas...It all came to about $177.00. Now if just Wooley was as cheap.....I would be in gum paste heaven.

I have taken a class with Scott wooley and have one of his DVDs and I think they *DVD and Class) are worth every penny. Have also taken a class at Nicolas Lodge's school and his classes also are very very good. The DVDs you can get on netflix are horrible. I have seen one previously and have the other at the moment and they aren't going to teach you anything. The flowers aren't very realistic looking at all.

I agree with everything everyone has said. Cost is out of this world for Scott's DVD compared to Nick. But Scott has it set up like he is there teaching the class. Where as Nick's is just showing and not teaching. I have Nick's and am now trying to put $$ back for Scotts.
