Hi everyone -- me again with yet another question!

I've got to stack fondant cakes. Do I put buttercream underneath to ensure no slippage? I'll be stacking the cakes at the site, so there won't be any transportation, except perhaps to the table itself. Do I leave it alone entirely?

Thanks all,

Sarah

do you mean between the cake and fondant,or between each tier?

I put a little bit of buttercream on the cake below to stick the next layer to it. Not much, but a bit of a squirt. I transport stacked, and it holds then it should hold just fine for you.

I just dowel them and they don't slip around.

If you are stacking the cake at the site and on the table, I believe there will not be any slipage to be afraid of.
Let's watch for other opinions.

If you are afraid of dowels as I used to be you can do this. In all but the top cake insert straws for support, cut to the exact height of the cake. Befor stacking one cake on another use a small bit of royal icing (less slippery and more grip in my opinion) This will help them stick to eachother well and still have the support you need. But don't be afraid of dowels..it is amazing how well it works.
