I offered to make my good friend's wedding and groom's cake for them and was so nervous but I am so proud of how everything turned out! The bride said she got tears in her eyes when she came in and saw the cake. The groom said she had carried around the picture of the cake for months showing people and she just couldn't believe that it was "her" cake sitting there on the table! It made me feel so good to be able to do this for them! And I learned a lot too. Thanks to SquirrellyCakes and the chocolate transfer post. I could have never made the nole and the ibis without it!!
You SHOULD be proud! Great job on both cakes!! ![]()
dodibug....they are just beautiful!! Great job girl!!!
I'm so glad to see you back!!! ![]()
Big hugs, ~Denise
Thanks! It's good to be back!! I had the wedding 5/6, my dh's surprise party and cake on 5/13 and then his graduation in Baton Rouge, LA on 5/20. Whew!! I'm beat but it was great and worth every minute and stress!
I forgot to mention-I found a pic similar to the wedding cake on-line so I don't know who to give credit to for the inspiration but thank you out there!!
Terrific job on the cakes and they look like they were delicious too! Congratulations on a job well done. ![]()
Wow, that seashell cake is awesome! Great job!
Your cakes are gorgeous. Did you make chocolate shells or are they real?
Where'd your dh graduate from? I live in Baton Rouge.
My dh graduated from LSU Dental. It was originally in New Orleans but they moved everything to Baton Rouge and around the state after Katrina. He ended up finishing out the year at UF in Gainesville and we went back for graduation. It was great to see him graduate. It has been a dream of his for so long!
Thanks for the compliments guys!! The shells are white chocolate flavored wafers-Clausen(I think that's how you spell it) brand. They tasted even better than Merkens IMO! Then I dusted them with different petal and luster dusts. Some shells had 3 or 4 different colors blended on them to get a realistic effect. I also had pearls and RI coral dusted with super pearl dust. The coral was so delicate I made plenty of extras. The only thing I bought was the cala lillies because I didn't have time to learn to make those lol!
I forgot to mention the cakes were white chocolate with raspberry chambord filling, carrott cake with cream cheese pecan filling and the groom's cake was chocolate chocolate chip with fudge buttercream icing.
The only bad thing was where they had the cakes sitting at the site was right in the window and it was hot. They tried to tell me the glass was tinted and they had the air blowing on the cakes-yeah right!!
What a busy time for you! I can't wait to try my hand at making such realistic sea shells. One more thing to add to my practice list!

I would love the recipe for the raspberry chambord and cream cheese pecan fillings!! Would you mind sharing them?
WOW! awesome job!
you did excellent with the shells. Terrific cakes!
Thanks so much guys! It was definitely worth all the hard work. I would love to give pointers when you need them! I got the raspberry filling recipe from ladycakes.com. It's the raspberry mousse filling recipe and I just didn't make the mousse part. I use the crusting cream cheese recipe from here and add toasted pecans for the other filling. I used to make a separate recipe for it but it tasted just as good as the recipe from here!
