Is Wilton's Tilting Cake Stand Worth It?

They are $60 at Michael's, and I have a 40% off coupon. Is this cake stand worth it? Can you really tilt it without the cake sliding off?
TIA!
It's not worth the $60 they want to charge, but I did the same thing and bought with a coupon. It doesn't turn very smooth, but the tilting is nice for writing, designs on the side, etc. And the stand also locks in place for when you don't want it to turn. As long as the cake is on a board and the board is on the stand, it tilts just fine without sliding off because the stand has a non skid surface.
BUT don't do like I did for my mother's day cake and have the cake on a board, and then that board on a board. Cake and small board slid right off lol I only did that because the board I had the cake on was too small to do a border with and instead of fighting with the cake to get it on a new board, I just thought it was more simple to just put the whole thing on a bigger board.
I have it and it was given as a gift. I don't know if I would have purchased it myself. There are definitely some pros and cons to it. You have to lift the whole stand by the base, otherwise, if you try to lift it on the part that spins, it comes off. Can't tell you how many times I've done that, with a cake on it!!! Also, it's a bit wobbly and doesn't sit very level. I wouldn't put more than 1 tiered cake on it if you're planning to use the tilt either. On the other hand, I do like to use the tilt when I am doing work on the sides of my cake and fro writing and drawing pictures on the cake.
Is it worth $60, I'd have to say no. You can get a much cheaper one that works just as well, without the tilt. Just from my experience though. HTH!
Love, love, love mine and since you have the coupon go for it!
I got mine as a gift. When I was looking to buy it, it was going to be with the coupon. I do like it for the non-skid surface and the tilting feature. It is great for writing on the sides, basketweave, corneli lace and sotas that need to go on the sides. But, yeah, it does not turn at that well and I also do not like the fact that I always forget to grab it by the base to move it. When I need great turning, but no tilting, I just use my trim and turn stand and that is just perfect.
If you want a good cake stand, buy the Ateco one with the cast iron base. I got mine at Williams-sonoma and they sell the one that has a metal pin (very important) because it moves freely. You can spin that thing for days and no sound what-so-ever. Ateco also sells a cheaper model with a plastic pin that has a hard time moving, like the Wilton one you are looking at. If I were you and you are serious about decorating, buy the Ateco.
Oh, and if you need it to tilt, a tip from Toba Garrett's cake book, just put something underneath the base on one of the sides.
Here is the picture of one...
