I am sorry I know it's probably been asked already but I can't find it. I am just wondering what thickness do you make your layers?

Like how many layers do you get from a cake pan that is 2 inches or 3 inches deep?

I can't seem to find cake tins deeper than 3 inches so do I need a couple to make a complete cake (one tier)?

Or do I just keep refilling one cake pan until I get the desired height for a cake tier?

Here our cake tins are deeper which means we can fill it with cake mix, bake once and then split into layers. It saves time. But I like magic line tins!

i always bake two 2 inch layers, torte each to end up with 4 layers of cake, and 3 layers of filling. i prefer that over baking one 3 inch layer and torting it. i think i get more height using two 2 inch pans. does that help?

I do it the same way BeccaKelly does it. I prefer using 3" pans and baking 2 cakes to be torted into 4 layers with 3 layers of filling.

Thank you peeps! I guess less torting is probably the way to go!
