Sealing A Cake

Please help im making my mums birthday cake and it is a teddy standing up pan im going to use a grass tip to make it look like fur but, I dont know how to seal it to keep it fresh, ive tried bytter cream but it dosent do the job is my buttercream wrong or do you seal it first then add the butter cream
Would be very grateful for your thoughts.

I'm sorry, I don't know what you mean by 'seal'. Do you mean the crumb coat?

If it is the Wilton standing bear, it does not need to be sealed or crumb coated. The star tip or whatever you chose, is used to cover it completely.

You can make an apricot glaze and paint it on to seal in the moisture and crumb coat. Then you can continue to decorate with the buttercream.
