to air brush a cake. I'm wanting to air brush a sculpted pickup cake and don't have access to an airbrush. Found this at local store. It is for airbrushing model cars.

You should take a look at the ingredients of what's in the propellant. Sometimes they contain additives that aren't food/consumption safe.

Hey where there's a will there's a way! I have no idea if it would work but you might want to give nozzles a thought! Too big? Let us know if you do it so we can give it a go!

I would be really interested to know if it works. I can't see any reason it shouldn't.

doubtful nozzle would be too big as made for model cars which are small...so that should be ok.

Duff uses a similar device (the Preval sprayer) so as long as propellant is safe, should be ok.

Okay - so I didn't use it - propellant had a mustard oil in it - was not sure about it - Warnings pretty much dealt with not inhaling the vapors. I didn't open the package since I want to take it back

Soooo, unhappily icon_cry.gificon_cry.gif I used the wilton spray colors - not getting the effect I wanted - but I guess it will have to do.

You are right Doug the nozzel is small so that wasn't going to be a problem.

Home Depot carries a wonderful little sprayer in the paint department called "Preval" sprayer. It is 3.98 and sprays airbrush and luster dusts perfectly and beautifully everytime. It is food safe. Duff, Ace of Cakes guy, uses it as well.

For what its worth I purchased 3 of the Preval Sprayers and it stated not to use for food. Are there different models. I would really love to use them for small things so I don't have to clean the airbrush for something small.

I'm definitely going to look at Home Depot and see what they have around here. Don't need an airbrush a lot, but when I do want the effects it is so frustrating not to have one. Like most the $$$ is a big issue.

Here's the link to the Preval Paint Sprayer for small jobs. I couldn't determine from what I read if it's food safe or not, perhaps a quick e-mail to the manufacturer would be in order.

I would like to know if the one at home depo is really the same one duff uses. If he uses it it "should" be safe right? (and please dont start on the gloves thing...)
