My husband told me today that he wants a camera cake for his birthday. For his gift I am "allowing him" LOL to buy a new Nikon SLR camera. I have seen some very cool camera cakes in the galleries, but I was wondering if anyone could offer me some advice on how to stack a camera cake. It doesn't need to be anything large since we are a small family. I figure that I could probably cover it in fondant without too much difficulty, but I don't have much experience in carved cakes. Can anyone offer some instruction? Thanks!

back -- the body -- just a stack of layers of cake

can use a single sheet cake cut into sections and stacked (just like doing any stacked tier cake)

lens can be:
backed in tomato or similar soup can
or
small baked tiers standing on edge
or
cut out from sheet cake w/ biscuit cutter and stood on edge.

after that -- it's all in the details you add.

easiest would be fondant.

OOHHhh, what a great cake....and present! I'm an amateur photographer myself and treated myself to a Nikon SLR camera last year! LOVE it!
