Another - Help Me With A Price Please...
Decorating By thecakemaker Updated 19 May 2006 , 8:06pm by somerset
I have an order for a 3" filled 12" cake with a graduate cake on it (stand up bear pan made to look like a person with a graduation robe and hat) with fondant cut out graduates all around it AND fondant stars and confetti all around the graduate. Graduate done in red and white with fondant cutout graduates done in blue and yellow. She said the more "bling bling" the better. I made lots of stars and star confetti to spread around.
I've known about a graduation cake for a month but she didn't make up her mind until I told her "I need to know today or I won't be able to make your cake". Good thing I had a lot of what I need to make the cake. I'm 1/2 way done - just need to finish decorating and give her her balance. She left me a deposit. Suggestions on a price?
Thanks!
Debbie
For the filled cake, sculpted graduate and so much fondant decoration, I would say no less that $150, but this cake is way out of my league, so I am really throwing out a wild guess...this is probably low...
Well, I am at a loss. Add up what you had tied up in supplies then add more to account for your incredible talent. I really wouldn't know what to charge.

I would think at the very least 100.00. I don't know much about your market. How many do you think it is going to feed? Do you know what your expenses are? I was going to do something similar with round on bottom and bear made into a baby for a shower and quoted 70.00, which I thought was too cheap. Ended up not doing it though and was glad because she was going to be the customer from you know where!!! heehee..
Hope that helps.
Cindy
Thanks!
She originally wanted a relatively simple cake which was fine considering I have a wedding cake for tonite and another birthday cake for Sunday and I will be at the Preakness tomorrow - so, no decorating then. She finally showed up Tuesday evening - only because I said "no show - no cake" and decided on this big gaudy elaborate thing. I was at a loss for a price at the moment so she left me a $50 deposit.
Thanks again
Deb
Hello all,
There was a "Basic pricing help list" going around someone had posted. I tried to get on the band wagon and asked if someone would send me a copy, but I never got it. maybe that would help you determine or just give you some idea as to what to charge. I'm a newbie just learning how to get around on this web site. I must confess it shore is addicting. I have no idea as to where to go to get a reply to any of my questions. ![]()
